Core 2 Webquest Multimedia 13 Colonies Project
Due December 19th, 2012
You are to research your individual colonies and compile and complete the following information. You will cite the website that your information was acquired from, identify any potential bias, or slanted POV. This will be set up in a series of links to other websites that will likely be placed into Gaggle as a complete product. I will verify the authenticity and organize your information from there or we will explore this together for you may have access to products and programs that I do not.
The following information/topics must be addressed and explored:
- Identification of the 13 original colonies, their location (latitude and longitude), original border
- Create a map that shows where the known tribes lived in that colony so that a person can click on that tribe name and be sent to a link or document you have created that tells a brief history of that tribe, extinct or not (last known contact with a member of that tribe if it exists), state or federal recognition today, any legislation or agreements filed for compensation for that named tribe for their financial or personal loss, any websites that highlight that particular tribe today
- First European contact with the specific Native American tribe in the area should be included if any exists (I can tell you in advance it does)
- First known conflict with Native American tribes with a description and outcome (Was a policy ever created by the colonists that specifically outlines the relocation, extermination of any colonial local tribe?)
- Primary document showing treaty, sale, or agreement for land use with Natives(This will likely be found by looking at that particular states “Bureau of Indian Affairs”)
- Founders of each colony and the year it was founded
- Descriptions of why colonies were founded (Colonist POV)
- Key founding fathers(Good people? Bad people? Remember this is to be looked at from the Native American POV)
- Geographical characteristics of each colony, climate, terrain, water sources, etc. list at least 3
- Role of religious development(Is it a case of trying to achieve religious tolerance, control, or exclusiveness?)
- Attitude toward slavery (of Africans and Natives this will also require you to consider the religious ramifications of the practice ie: Is it really consistent with “religious” values? Why or why not? )
- Economic conditions (What was the main way to make a living? Different colonies had main sources of production so identify those and any data that might show a profit for that particular colony)
- Multimedia presentation(You choose, it could be most any kind. PPT’s will not be considered. You are better than that.)
- A timeline of the regions(Could be interactive with motion, can be done through Flash Player)
I know how much you guys love to debate. You will set up a philosophical chairs type discussion with a series of high level thinking questions your audience needs to explore and come back at a later time to discuss regarding how Native Americans should be compensated. Is there a fair way to do it? How would it impact Americans today?
Good source of a primary document regarding the 350th anniversary of the Pilgrim’s landing at Plymouth Rock. Should get your brain pumping.
How will your students you are presenting this to show they have got it? You need to create some type of assessment they complete to ensure their comprehension.
Suggested websites:
(This is the site from Washington State that actually started this type of education. It is for reference only and check out their interactive map of their Indian tribes)
This is the basis of what I am after. You need to be able to click the link or create one that takes you to another site that contains your acquired info of that tribe
Not every answer you need regarding slavery but it is a good start
Governor’s or State’s/Federal Office for the Bureau of Indian Affairs
Example:
(this actually handles the jurisdiction for many of the eastern colonies through Virginia)
(This PDF examines a specific detail for Connecticut that can be applied to other states. It is worth your time checking it out.)
Colony Suggested Sites (If they link to a Wiki and you use it, you are DOOMED!)
