Title: Instructional Coach

Reports To: Building and District Administration

Job Goal: To enhance instructional practices, promote the effective use of teaching strategies, classroom management techniques and provide resources to classroom teachers.

Qualifications:

1.  Standard Teaching License for State of Iowa (advanced degree preferred)

2.  Completed at least three years of teaching with a minimum of one year as a teacher in the Oelwein School District

3.  Successfully meets all Iowa Teaching Standards

4.  Evidence of student success

5.  Evidence of deep understanding of the Iowa Core

10. Skilled in the use of instructional strategies, classroom management techniques and technology for learning.

11. Previous leadership responsibilities (preferred)

Responsibilities and Expectations:

1.  Become familiar with the TLC plan and work for its successful implementation.

2.  Willingness to improve instructional and learning strategies, with an emphasis in Reading and Math.

3.  Work with teachers in the development of daily, weekly, and unit lesson plans.

4.  Work with teachers in the development of effective classroom management strategies and motivation techniques.

5.  Work with teachers to provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum resources.

6.  Work with teachers in assessing problem areas in instruction and in finding and implementing appropriate solutions

7.  Introduce teachers to new methods, materials, and instructional strategies that, through research, have proven to increase student achievement.

8.  Model best instructional practices through co-teaching and classroom demonstrations.

9.  Make informal classroom observations and provides immediate non-evaluative feedback for the purpose of instructional support and program improvement.

10. Use technology to disaggregate assessment data to inform teachers of areas needing instructional adjustment.

11. In conjunction with the technology coaches, assist teachers in incorporating the use of technology into the instructional program.

12. Proficient use of curriculum mapping software

13. Assist teachers in developing sound, defensible procedures for assessing student progress and for reporting that progress to students and parents in a timely manner.

14. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other leadership positions, administrators, teachers, and staff to strengthen all aspects of the instructional program.

15. Works collaboratively and communicate effectively with other instructional coaches, model teachers and curriculum leaders to ensure rigorous, relevant curricula and instructional practices that will increase student achievement.

16. Works collaboratively with the Curriculum Leaders and teachers to ensure the written curriculum supports the Iowa Core.

17. Work collaboratively with building Professional Learning Communities to develop and implement goals related to continuous inquiry and improved student achievement.

18. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a building’s school improvement plan.

19. Assist with staff development at the building or district level.

20. Attends Building Leadership Team and District Leadership Team meetings.

21. Act as co-chairperson for the District Leadership Team.

22. Have pre-approval of all curriculum-related purchases by the building principal.

23. Attend appropriate meetings (ie. conventions, workshops, etc.) to keep abreast of current developments in educational curriculum and technology.

24. Collect and interpret data for TLC program evaluation.

25. Provide documentation on duties performed

26. Other duties as assigned.

Meeting Requirements:

Attends leadership meetings at least two times per year with all TLC leadership positions.

Attends monthly meetings with model teachers at your level

Attends weekly meetings with all instructional coaches and technology coach.

Attends weekly meetings with building principal.

Attends curriculum mapping sessions for their level.

Once a month attends an administration cabinet meeting.

Be available to meet with staff before or after school hours based on needs

Terms of Employment: 15 days of extended contract; Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance of the of the Board’s policy on Evaluations of Personnel.
