Qualifications
/ Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communication, Education or a related field from an accredited education institution./ Requires supervisory office management and administrative experience/abilities.
/ Windows 2000/XP experience and abilities; sophisticated composition and proofreading abilities; supervisory filing experience and abilities; knowledge of public affairs functions desirable.
/ Valid Florida Driver License.

Assists Director of District Communications in preparation of communication materials/activities/events for the School District and the public schools. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of District Communication & Public Information Officer.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of communications, graphic design and layout. Ability to write, professional quality press releases, news stories, speeches, radio scripts, and video scripts for television productions. Knowledge of software applications for graphics and printing. Ability to proof, edit and take photographs. Ability to find and use outside resources to enhance the communications goals. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening hours and occasional weekends.
Performance Responsibilities: Essential Functions
/ Assist Director of District Communications in coordinating all external and internal communication efforts for the school District.
/ Produces news releases for consideration by local area and national news media outlets.
/ Provide to the director ideas for public affairs programming for District’s TV station.
/ Supervise coordination of District’s speaker’s bureau and management of office functions.
/ Assist with district wide hosted community events as appropriate.
/ Provide background and occasionally produce internal communications products such as newsletters and memos as directed.
/ Assist with production of District’s annual report, fact sheets, biographies on key personnel, and other public affairs related products as necessary.
/ Collaborate with print shop on marketing products and ideas as directed.
/ As directed, handle communications efforts necessary to publicize a specific event, issue, etc.
/ Assist Director with other public affairs duties as required and assume direction of the office in absence and at the direction of the Director.
/ Provide outstanding customer service, and use positive interpersonal communication skills.
/ Make all decisions and perform all tasks in accordance with Brevard Public Schools’ Organizational Values.
/ Ensure compliance with Board rules and applicable federal laws and regulations.
