Outdoor Resource Center Coordinator
The position of ORC Coordinator will provide you with great personal and professional growth potential while providing the campus community affordable access to outdoor recreation equipment and resources.
Purpose:
Work with a team of student leaders to provide a fun, positive, safe and ecologically sound working environment. The core responsibility of this position is to develop, promote and manage the Outdoor Resource Center, Rental Equipment Component of the Recreation Center and Bike Maintenance as the hub of SSU’s outdoor recreation community!
Duties and Responsibilities:
Staff:
Create staff schedule
Conduct staff training
Reviewing staff payroll
Provide empowering opportunities to the staff while providing direction
Cover shifts for staff when needed and recommended to have at least one shift during ORC open hours
Office Management:
Delegate weekly staff projects: This includes updating the white board “To Dos” and the “2Do” Binder (staff resources)
Create weekly “411” (staff information sheet inclusive of recreation center, other component area and program specific related information)
Review all staff paperwork and projects to ensure the correct process and procedures have occurred
Hold staff accountable for program standards
Ensure staff has the needed resources to be successful (I.E. copies of equipment rental paperwork, markers)
Work with Building Operations to update any rental/retail and bike maintenance items on cash register.
Responsible for overall appearance of Outdoor Resource Center
Equipment:
Oversight of equipment maintenance, cleaning, storing and thoroughly checking equipment
Follow up with participants and leaders who are responsible for equipment that is damaged
Work with Adventure Program Coordinator to purchase Retail and Rental items when needed
Marketing and Promotion:
Website updates to our Recreation Center Techie
Flier making, sandwich board and banner requests
Update Rental Brochure
Develop marketing plan for the Outdoor Resource Center
Develop partnerships with other Outdoor Programs in different schools and community
Records:
Maintain organized paper and electronic files inclusive of rental checkout, pre/post report card, maintenance list and inventory
Create a system of storing files for three year (then shredding)
Responsible for maintaining a backup of all Rental and Retail Computer Files (this includes cleaning out old files that are not related to the ORC programs)
Create End of Semester Report
Inventory:
Responsible for monthly Retail items inventory
Responsible for semester equipment inventory
Required Qualifications:
Current Sonoma State University Student
Passionate about getting people outdoors
Experience working with outdoor equipment
Committed to student leadership and development
Ability to supervise student staff
Reliable, self motivated, and able to make decisions based on Campus Recreation guiding principles
Approachable and amiable, with good communication skills
Organized and attention to detail
Knowledge of computer programs: excel, word and in-design Or a willingness to learn
Flexible, and passionate to implement new ideas and goals for the program
Compensation: $10.25/hour
Start Date: Late March, Early April, 2013
Time Expectation
As a ORC Coordinator you can expect to be in the office approximately 10 hours a week through the academic year. Weekly expectations include regular office hours as well as attending weekly meetings: component meeting with a co-coordinator and the supervising full time professional, programmers meeting and Tuesday Nights Potlucks Last Tuesday of each month. Of The time commitment will flow during the year. Mindful time management will enable you to take time off and maintain a productive work schedule.

All Campus Recreation Employees are required to hold a current certification in First Aid and CPR. The Campus Recreation Program will provide you, if hired, campus rec will provide the opportunity to take a certification. If you are unable to attend these trainings, you as a Campus Recreation Employee, are responsible for scheduling, completing and financing your First Aid and CPR certification within one month of the last Campus Recreation First Aid and CPR class offered.
