Coolamon Shire Council invites comments from the public on its draft Payment of Expenses and Provision of Facilities for Mayors and Councillors Policy. CLUBGRANTS 3 EOI OPEN FOR LOCAL SPORT AND RECREATION PROJECTS

Member for Cootamundra, Katrina Hodgkinson is encouraging local organisations to apply for grants of up to $1 Million to help upgrade sport and recreation facilities through the Club GRANTS Category 3 program.

Expression of interest for sport and recreation grants are open until 5.00pm, Thursday, 8th October, 2015.

NEW COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Congratulations toJessica Inch who has been appointed as Council’s new Community Development Officer.

Jess replaces Bronwyn Hatty and will be working from the Coolamon Shire Library.

These awards recognise the valuable contributions being made by individuals in our community.

Capture Coolamon Shire Photograph Competition

WHEN:Saturday 31st October - Sunday 8th November

The Competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers everywhere however, all entries must have beentaken within the Coolamon Shire boundary.

There will be both Youth and Open Sections and cash prizes awarded across 5 Categories, including the $1,000 Cathie Thompson Prize.

Entries close Friday, 16th October, 2015 with prize winners announced on 30th October, 2015. For entry forms and terms and conditions please head to

The Official Opening will take place on Friday, 30th October. The cost is $15.00 per person and includes canapés. The evening's program will feature live entertainment and the Official Awards Ceremony. Bar facilities will be available on the night.

The exhibition will be on display in the Up to Date Store from 31st October – 8th November 2015.

GRAIN HARVEST MANAGEMENT SCHEME

Council has approved consent to the operation of the Grain Harvest Management Scheme within the Coolamon Shire area for the upcoming harvest from 1stOctober, 2015 to 31st January, 2016.

The School Holiday Program still has several workshops for children to enjoy including:

  • “Stick Busters” - Wednesday, 30th September at 10.30am, and
  • “Pizza Making” - Thursday, 1st October at 11.00am.

FIREBREAKS POLICY

Council shall require the owner or occupier of any land within the Shire exceeding four hectares in area to make and maintain fire breaks surrounding the entire property or as near as practicable thereto by ploughing or maintaining bare earth to a width of not less than 3 metres, such work must be completed by the 31st October, and where land is under crop by the 30th November. Where harvesting is carried out prior to the 30th November, fire breaks must be established prior to such harvest.

Where it is intended to carry out clover harvesting and the clover paddock to be harvested is located on the boundary of a property, landholders are required to establish a fire break by ploughing to a width of not less than 10 metres (33ft) along such boundary.

MY AGED CARE

As of the 1st July the government funding that enables us to provide our services changed. What this means for NEW clients or current clients who would like more service is that you will need to contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or register your details.

The support staff at My Aged Care will arrange for an assessor to discuss your needs and options. You can request with the assessor that you would like Allawah Community Care to provide your service and they will send through a referral to us.

Initially this may be a little confusing and if you experience any difficulties please feel free to call or drop in to us and we can guide you through.

Our monthly Community meals are being very well attended. Senior Shire residents are warmly invited to attend, particularly if you live alone.

Meals on Wheels

Allawah Community Care has a wide selection of frozen meals to choose from. The meals can be collected from the Community Centre during office hours or for those who are unable to collect them, delivery can be arranged. Our volunteers currently deliver meals weekly to clients who live in Coolamon and regular deliveries to Ganmain,Marrar, Ardlethan and Beckom are also available. Please contact Allawah Community Care for a meal selection list and to discuss delivery options.

Volunteer Training Day

A volunteer training day will be held on 12th October, 2015. This is the only training session for this year and it is important that all volunteers attend. Starting time is 10.00am with morning tea and lunch provided. Please confirm your attendance by contacting Allawah Community Care on 69273521.

Volunteers Morning Tea

Our Volunteers Morning Tea is starting to take off with more Volunteers coming along for a chat and catch up. If you have the first Monday of the month at 10.00am free, please come and join us.Due to the first Monday in October being a public holiday, the next volunteers Morning Tea will be on 2nd November.
