Cooking Project

Objective: To prepare a culturally authentic dish (or entire meal, if you choose) for you and your family. This will include preparing a menu, shopping if necessary, cooking, serving the dish or the meal, and cleaning up the kitchen. This project is due ______

Remember that you do NOT have to cook an entire meal, but only one dish! ( an appetizer(entrée), or main dish, or salad, or dessert.) You must, however, create a menu for an entire meal.

  1. Your created menu for a meal will include the following:

an appetizer – this can be very simple- Fresh vegetables, a soup, etc.

a main dish- this needs to be French, from France. Check with first.

a salad- this is just a green salad with a vinaigrette. (Do NOT use Ranch dressing. This is not French!)

cheese- No cheddar here! Try a cheese like brie or camembert

a dessert- this should be French style. No cheesecake!

  1. During the serving of your dish, instruct your family as to proper table etiquette in France.
  2. Take pictures of the process (at least two each part of the project: the shopping trip, the cooking, serving the dish, and cleaning the kitchen) and create captions (you may use English) for your pictures.
  3. Print out all recipes you have used for your project
  4. Have each family member or persons served write a comment about what you served. (One sheet of paper can be used for all comments.
  5. Include your own reflection about this project. Include what your favorite and least favorite parts of the project were and what you would do differently next time.
  6. Bind all of the above-mentioned items in a “scrapbook “ and create a table of contents.

Your finished project should contain:

A decorated cover including your name and class period.

A table of contents

The menu you created for an entire meal (In French)

Two photos of each part of the process with captions (at least 8 photos total)

Printouts of all recipes used in the project . These MUST come from French Food and Cook, or approved by Madame in ADVANCE. French Food and Cook:
