Convention wrap-up

Elections. The following people were elected as at-large members of the Council of Trustees: Stephan Mann, St. Luke’s, Shawnee; and the Rev. Patrick Funston, St. Paul’s, Manhattan. They each will serve a three-year term.

At a meeting after the close of convention, the Council elected Sue O’Connor, St. Timothy’s, Iola, as president for the coming year.

The following people were elected as members of the Disciplinary Board, serving a three-year term: Philip Davidson, St. John’s, Wichita; the Rev. Dawn Frankfurt, St. James’, Wichita; the Very Rev. SteveLipscomb, Grace Cathedral, Topeka; the Rev. Jerry Rankin, St. John’s, Abilene; Rogene Schille, St. Paul’s, Coffeyville; Bob Skaggs, St. Michael and All Angels, Mission; and the Rev. Shawn Streepy, St. Aidan’s, Olathe.

Installation of the new Presiding Bishop takes place on Sunday

Bishop Michael Curry becomes the Episcopal Church’s 27th Presiding Bishop in a service that takes place Sunday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. Central time at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Bishop Curry will preach at the service of Holy Eucharist that also marks his installation as presiding bishop.

On Saturday, Oct. 31, the Union of Black Episcopalians is sponsoring a Vigil Celebration and Eucharist, beginning at 10 a.m. Central time. A live webcast of the service will be available on the Episcopal Church website,

Health insurance information for 2016 now is available

Rates for health plans approved for the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas have been released for lay employees and clergy who are covered under the Episcopal Church’s Medical Trust.

Last call for registrations for the Gathering of Presbyters

All priests are reminded that they must register before noon on Monday, Nov. 2 to attend this year’s Gathering of Presbyters.

Registrations all are online at

The event takes place Nov. 10-12 at the Spiritual Life Center in Wichita, beginning with lunch on Tuesday and concluding at noon on Thursday. The speaker will be the Rev. Roger Joslin, a church planter from the Diocese of Arkansas.

The Gathering of Presbyters is an annual event that every priest who is active in ministry in this diocese is obligated to attend.

Youth still can sign-up for Happening #90

Happening is a Christian experience by youth for youth. It’s a weekend retreat, focusing on Jesus and what he taught. There are games, music, great food and a chance to talk with peers about things that really matter.

Daughters of the King Fall Assembly is set for Nov. 7

Members of chapters of the Daughters of the King across the diocese, as well as Junior Daughters, are invited to the Fall Assembly at Grace, Winfield, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Special guests will include Pat Hind, Province 7 DOK president; diocesan Canon to the Ordinary the Rev. Torey Lightcap; and Erin Mae and Amber Rogers of Scenic Roots, who will present a concert.

The day will include a celebration of the Holy Eucharist, a prayer workshop and words of inspiration.

The cost of registration, which includes lunch, is $20.

Minutes are posted once they have been approved, which usually is the month after the meeting takes place.

Celebration of New Ministry set for Nov. 21

All are invited to a Celebration of New Ministry for the Rev. Mary Korte, D.Min., when she will be installed as rector of St. Stephen’s, Wichita. The service takes place on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. at the church, 7404 E. Killarney in Wichita. A high tea will follow the service.

Korte most recently has served the church as priest in charge.

ESS receives major grant

Episcopal Social Services in Wichita is one of five Sedgwick County organizations awarded grants to advance local public safety initiatives, given by the office of the Kansas Attorney General.

ESS has been awarded $47,921 to provide mental health services to reduce incarceration.

The grant is part of the federal Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.

Clergy news

The Rev. David Kent has been named vicar of St. Timothy’s, Iola, beginning Nov. 1. He previously served as canon to the ordinary during the episcopacy of Bishop William Smalley.

The Rev. Jon Hullinger has been named the new priest in charge of Trinity, Atchison, beginning Nov. 1. He most recently has been assisting at St. James’, Wichita.

Anniversaries of ordinations
