Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage

CONSULTATION ON THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE CONVENTION

HUNGARY

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Convention, Hungary has planned the following programs (depending on the central budget of 2013):

1.  International Programs:

Bridging Continents for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Making collections/research of Ethiopian-Hungarian folk music collections/research publicly available, reintroducing them in the affected communities, launching new research projects based on earlier research, and organizing meetings of experts.

Potential sources of funding for the planned project: UNESCO, the EU, ministries responsible for Ethiopian and Hungarian culture, national foundations, NGOs, the private sector (entrepreneurs, banks)

“Folk Music Research Across Borders”

International Conference on Music with Folk Music Concerts

The effects of early Hungarian folk music research on countries where they were conducted and following early masters – on-going ethnomusicology research to the present.

2.  Sub-regional Programs:

International Conference on Shared Heritage

Inventorying, safeguarding strategies, viable ways of preserving and sustaining

Partners: countries neighbouring Hungary

Bagpipe Traditions in the Carpathian Basin, Bagpipe Music of Castles

Meeting of the current bearers of the shared heritage

Partners: Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Austria

3.  National-level Programs:

•  Featured Program:

Cultural Heritage Days – formal announcement of new inscriptions on the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage at the opening ceremony.

•  Regular folk art and folk art revival events held nationally with safeguarding intangible heritage theme: National Táncház Festival and Fair, Festival of Folk Arts, Master of Folk Arts Award Ceremony and Gala, Announcement of Young Master of Folk Arts Awardees and Gala

•  Large-scale national arts and cultural events with an emphasis on intangible cultural heritage (ie. Spring Festival), in the national network of ICH centres established in the capital and in large urban centres throughout the country

•  Contemporary folk art program for 21st century-application and utilization of folk art (music, visual arts and industrial/applied arts)

•  Media campaign: One month for ICH series

•  Heritage Tours and ICH ‘Road Show’: exhibits and programs for experts in the field, ‘Roving bus’ to heritage bearer communities, local community events, touring exhibits, performances, conferences, on-site consultation and guidance, kiddie-corners, dance houses, etc.

•  Conference series

•  Series of publications

•  Educational series introducing bearer communities

•  ICH Year at the Open-Air Museum in Szentendre, Skanzen Houses in the Spirit of ICH: Featured events and thematic weekends, with a common format throughout the year: puzzles (games, announcements, workshops), construction of typical peasant houses of Mezőkövesd and Karcag, devoting individual existing houses throughout 2013 to the various elements inscribed on the national inventory.

4.  Local-/community-level Programs:

•  Performances, festivals and exhibits in the local communities of elements inscribed on the national inventory
