Health Promoter (Contract Full-time)
Contract Duration: Approximately thirteen (13) months
Health Services –Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention
The Active Living team requires an innovative, self-directed Health Promoter with experience and interest in planning, implementing and evaluating programs, focused on physical activity and environmental supports for active living and active transportation. As an integral member of the Active Living Team, you will support the work for the Region of Peel Supportive Environments for Healthy Living strategic priority.
Team SpecificResponsibilities:
- Work in a self-directed manner within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment to design and deliver programming
- Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of Active Living initiatives
- Apply knowledge regarding concepts of population health, health inequity, social determinants of health, and strategies for health promotion to guide practice
- Utilize research and evidence, applyingcritical appraisal skills and evidence-informed decision making, to inform policies, programs and practice
- Knowledge of epidemiological concepts
- Prepare and submit reports
- Collaborate with partners in the development of program planning and evaluation materials
- Collaborates to identify and address barriers to active living in order to achieve improved health outcomes, maintaining networks through various community contacts
General Responsibilities:
- Plans, supports, develops, implements and evaluates health promotion programs, policies and strategies
- Interprets and analyzes information in order to provide recommendations to supervisor or middle management for policy and/or program development
- Participates in research projects including team, sectional or divisional projects
- Conducts community needs assessments and situational assessments
- Prepares detailed documentation, reports, briefing notes, scoping reviews and statistical analyses
- Develops written and visual communication products such as social media, websites and presentations
- Transfers or seeks to transfer public health knowledge and skill
- Develops and maintains cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
- Works to facilitate community mobilization and/or strengthen community capacities to take action on and improve health issues
- Applies health promotion knowledge and knowledge of public health sciences including population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and applicable legislation
- Ensures that issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture are reflected in health promotion planning and programs
Qualifications:
- University degree in a relevant health-related field
- Minimum 1 year related experience in program planning, development, implementation and evaluation
- Background and understanding of research methods, policy development, analysis and critical appraisal including awareness of evidence informed decision making
- Knowledge of public health sciences including population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and applicable legislation
- Well-developed and proven written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in using key theoretical models of health promotion
- Strong analytical skills to interpret and apply data
- Demonstrated facilitation, partnership/collaboration, project management, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Competence in Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook programs
