Generation Citizen shall:
- Deliver a 10-week long, twice weekly, action-based, state-standards-aligned civics curriculum, consisting of a minimum of twenty classes in a single academic semester.
- Provide printed curricular materials, including: Teacher handbooks; Printed Generation Citizen Curriculum; Student Handbooks; Presentation materials for Civics Day.
- Provide College Democracy Coaches who will work with the classroom teachers to implement the curriculum.
- Coordinate class and Democracy Coach schedules to provide each participating class with at least one partnered Democracy Coach.
- Ensure that all Democracy Coaches successfully obtain all necessary BCI background checks and receive initial in-depth training and ongoing weekly support.
- Organize a “Civics Day” to be held at the conclusion of each semester, in which each participating class sends delegates to make presentations to all GC classes in their city.
- Lead a teacher orientation and training session at the beginning of each semester for all participating teachers (Classroom Teachers) participating in the Generation Citizen program from Central High School, Delsesto Middle School, ECubed High School, and Roger Williams Middle School..
- Provide ongoing and logistical support as needed to Classroom Teachers with respect to the curriculum, including lesson revisions, assessment revisions, and strategies for implementing the action-based curriculum.
- Observe each class at least once over the course of the semester.
- Collaborate with Classroom Teachers and Democracy Coaches to ensure that all classes engage in project-based learning to address issues they identify in their community.
- Provide classroom students with the experience to gain the knowledge, skills and dispositions to take effective civic action in the future.
- Reinforce and support positive behavior and decision-making skills of students.
- Assist Democracy Coaches and Classroom Teachers in providing support, mentoring, and positive assistance necessary for student success with the program.
- Assist Democracy Coaches and Classroom Teachers in coordinating and/or facilitating community outreach, enabling students to practice communication, interview and primary source research skills.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure active communication about the success of Democracy Coaches and class projects and to remain in alignment with school goals.
In no more than three paragraphs, describe the accountability measures that will ensure that the vendor meets all requirements set forth in the contract and that the district is able to maintain a record of the quality of the services.
Every contract should include explicit language requiring vendor accountability, i.e. required program evaluation or the submission of a final report summarizing progress against each itemized deliverable.
In addition to this contract, Generation Citizen and Central High School, Delsesto Middle School, E Cubed High School, and Roger Williams Middle School will sign a Memorandum of Understanding, detailing all deliverables of both parties. Generation Citizen Rhode Island staff members Molly Cohen and Thomas Kerr-Vanderslice will meet with school administration before the program starts, at a date mid-way through the semester, and after the program concludes to discuss the program’s success and ensure all classroom projects are in alignment with school goals. Partnered Classroom Teachers and Democracy Coaches will testify to all deliverables being met.
Generation Citizen will track progress throughout the semester through on-going communication, attendance at training and in-school sessions, mid-semester teacher and college student surveys, and formal classroom observation records. At the end of the contract, Generation Citizen will submit a final report that summarizes the progress against each deliverable. This report will include an overview of the action projects decided upon and implemented by classroom students and draw upon Classroom Teacher and Democracy Coach post-semester surveys and a pre/post comparison of student change over time.

Generation Citizen per Class Fee: $500
- Materials - $100
- 25 student handbooks; 3 copies of the Generation Citizen Curriculum; 1 copy of the Generation Citizen teacher handbook and portfolio.
- Training and Development - $300
- Teacher orientation and professional development; College Democracy Coach training and workshops; Weekly trainings for College Democracy Coaches, on-going coaching from staff.
- Civics Day - $100
- Project materials, including a tri-fold poster board; Civics Day busing and transportation; Civics Day lunch for all participants; Location costs, including room rental and/or custodial fees.
Generation Citizen will partner with the following number of classes per school:
● Delsesto: eight (8) classes, four (4) each semester. The school will pay Generation Citizen a fee of $500 per participating classroom, per academic semester, totaling in $2,000 for the Fall 2015 academic semester, and $2,000 for the Spring 2016 academic semester. Generation Citizen will cover the remaining cost of the program [$2,000 per participating classroom, per academic semester] by internal grant.
●Roger Williams Middle School: ten (10) classes, five (5) each semester. The school will pay Generation Citizen a fee of $500 per participating classroom, per academic semester, totaling in $2,500 for the Fall 2015 academic semester, and $2,500 for the Spring 2016 academic semester. Generation Citizen will cover the remaining cost of the program [$2,000 per participating classroom, per academic semester] by internal grant.
●Central High School:two (2) classes, one (1) each semester. The school will pay Generation Citizen a fee of $500 per participating classroom, per academic semester, totaling in $500for the Fall 2015 academic semester, and $500 for the Spring 2016 academic semester. Generation Citizen will cover the remaining cost of the program [$2,000 per participating classroom, per academic semester] by internal grant.
●E Cubed High School: two (2), one(1) each semester. The school will pay Generation Citizen a fee of $500 per participating classroom, per academic semester, totaling in $500 for the Fall 2015 academic semester, and $500 for the Spring 2016 academic semester. Generation Citizen will cover the remaining cost of the program [$2,000 per participating classroom, per academic semester] by internal grant.
Generation Citizen will invoice the School on the first business days of October and February for each semester.
