PURPOSE :
To develop specifications for a “BRUSH” type vehicle for fire control purposes. The Dept of Natural Resources (DNR) is interested in acquiring vehicles that are heavier in frame and running gear than the typical class 4 & 5 trucks, but lighter than the normal HD Class 6 trucks. We need this vehicle in four wheel drive versions with diesel power that is industry proven to be low in maintenance with ease of access to engine components for minor and major repairs. We require a minimum turning radius as it will be used in wooded areas with limited room to maneuver. We need a low hood contour design allowing for visibility to be as near the front area of the vehicle as possible.
The vehicle must be equipped with Rugged Duty Automatic transmission and exhaust braking with “related” downshifts. We require ABS four wheel disc brakes.
With today’s fuel prices, fuel economy is a huge issue and will be considered in this vehicle choice. / X
