I. Call to Order

II. Quorum Roll Call

III. Appointments and Confirmations

EAC:

Jessica: loves diversity and community of Davis. Great answers to our questions series and otherwise. Excited to have her.

Wonders: explain why you’re qualified

Jessica: I have served on multiple committees in the past. Vice chair for psych council. Held positions to plan events and advice people who had more power than me.

Amelia: girl scout. I love being committed to projects and helping other people. Lots of creative ideas I can bring to the board Open to suggestions if anyone has anything they want to express or if they want to work with me on a project I’d be totally open to help you to make this a better integrated community.

Wonders: if I biography was written what would the title be?

Jessica: umm I’m going to choose to decline

Amelia: pass

Ong: what’s your favorite part of the Davis community?

Jessica: diversity. I’m a first year btw. I was deciding between Davis and Cal Lutheran. And I chose Davis because it’s larger and I came from an area in California where everyone is the same. So far I feel very welcome and my friends feel welcome.

Amelia: probably how welcoming people are and how responsive people are when you just ask and put yourself out there a little bit. Most people don’t think to seize and they just wait. But people here are so nice and want to make it happen

Ong: I yield

Cano: Serious questions. What’s your favorite downtown business?

Jessica: yoloberry I see them present on campus. And absolutely helpful.

Amelia: village bakery. They’re my favorite

Thomas: how much did yoloberry pay you to say that? I know you’re new to this but have you heard about freshman talking about it?

Jessica: spread the word if I’m confirmed today.

Thomas: I know you have the DC but how many of the restaurants down town have you been able to experience

Jessica: been to most of the ones at Aggiecash. I’d say about half.

Jessica Confirmed

Amelia confirmed

Sylvia: great interview. Lots of experience internationally. Interesting experiences including a long time ain Georgia. Enjoyed working with her

Sagala: welcome. I just wanted to ask why you were interested in this position

Sylvia: Bringing international and domestic students together

Sagala: what kind of, how do you see your role on campus as the 2020 initiative, accommodating for the influx

Sylvia: committee serve as resource. My role is to make sure resource is accessible and know there’s a community, so they feel comfy

Nonga: First question is what’s your experience with using resources for international students

Sylvia: I have used a lot of on and off campus. The house interesting events, interesting domestic and international scholars. Dutton hall and free tutoring. Esl trouble with writing and grammar whatever you have you can go over there. Icc helps for interviews. SISS Service for intertational students and scholars

Nonga: You faced a lot of challenges, the public may not understand or fully grasp. Describe your experience.

Sylvia: its kinda embarrassing. I came to the states 3 years ago. Georgia is not as diverse but I didn’t care I told myself to stand up and speak for myself and reach out and don’t be shy and that’s how I figured out you have to believe in yourself and look out for yourself.

Wooster: you know what I yield same question

Thomas: What do you find the biggest disconnect between international students and the rest of the community

Sylvia: Why that happen is because international students don’t reach out. Hide in their group because they feel uncomfortable interacting with domestic students. Those people judge when I want to say something can’t. language barrier. But domestic students have to realize that we do have the challenge of not being to express and have to be patient with us.

Thomas: fantastic

Confirmed.

SHAWC

Blown away from the interview. His enthusiasm and passion for health. Lots of ideas to share, excited to see where his committee will go

Wonders: can you please explain why you’re qualified

Ed: I have been in asucd before. I’m also a biochem major. Skilled in the knowledge of ascucd. Have relationships and basically the partnerships in you know I have initiatives that I wanna start in SHOCK committee such as partnerships with student clinics. Peer counseling with the house during finals week. Anxious to start. I just ask that everyone on this commission it’s really degrading to me by people not respecting me and what I’m saying because I have respect for all of you.

Torres: I just wanna know how good you are at tennis

Ed: I’m okay

Torres: we went to high school together.

Nonga: just curious what year are you

Ed: second year

Ed: networks with vice president. Got the opportunity to meet other commission members, vp, good relationship with asucd as a whole. I know the structure. We have a tough task, and I am knowledgeable about the infrastructure of asucd

Nonga: Which aspect of student health should be a priority?

Ed: mental aspect should be an important one. Once you are sound mentally you can go anywhere else. You want to have the best mindset possible. You’re getting those grades doing those activities with the right mindset. If they have social or family issues that’s all mental and that’s something I wanna strengthen. There’s student organization with peer counselors. Caps controls that. We can reach out to them because they know what you guys are going through…they taken classes…if we have that partnership we can have those students reaching out to you. We also need to start at the bottom level with freshman. Once we have opportunities for freshman like orientation theres a lack of presentation, theres so many adminitration who think they know what’s right or wrong. Need to incorporate the STUDENT. I just feel like there should be more student representation rather than faculty.

Sagala: with responsibilities as SHOCK chair, what do you see as your future in the association.

Ed: it’s the student health and wellness committee. #1 priority is education. You wanna get your degree here. We have to be sound mentally and strengthening the committee and making it stand out. Students need to be sound mentally.

Sagala: what do you see yourself in the organization as a whole outside of shock

Ed: pass

Confirmed

A.  Entertainment Council Director

B SHAWC Chair Sexual Assault Awareness committee

Figueroa: do you have any initial plans or ideas you wanna implement?

Stephanie: I wanna see what my committee can give to the table; I wanna start having outside sources like WEAVE started off. Weave is I forgot the exact each letter stands for basically for women whose escaping sexual assault. Give them $50 to get professional clothing women and children specifically. Have them come to campus. And how we can help them and have help lines that are 24 hours so they can call them immediately.

Do you at all plan to something about hate crimes?

Stephanie: Definitely I think that’s one of the strong points I want to consider. That’s def part of my plan

Sagala: how do you see yourself executing types of programming? would you need a necessary budget for those things?

Stephanie: I’m not sure if I need a budget but def working with CAPS and WRC. I worked with caps already have some psychologists to help us out. Counselors are a great place to ask for help.

Sagala: If we offer this service it’s gonna mean having students come forward. How will you bridge that gap or climb that wall?

Stephanie: That is quite tough because no one wants to talk about it because oh, victims are to blame. So hopefully for them to share stories, trying to get them to have that relationship with us first and then see if they want to speak for themselves.

Xiong: I just want to commend you for taking up this position because it’s not an easy position because survivors will come out and look for your support. I urge for a speedy passage!

Sahota: Past experience with things like this and stuff like that. Can you elaborate? Civil right sexual violence

Stephanie: Peer educator for WRS does a lot of workshops. Specifically right now I’m working on a project to go to dorms to educate that this is what it actually is and this is how you can help a loved one. I work with caps, so lots of distressed students and it’s confidential. I’m all about doing that. I volunteered and wrc so I volunteered with people from different backgrounds

Sahota: That’s great you’re joining team. I wanna do something about freshman orientation going over definition of what sexual assault is. Drinking and things like that but more important things to address.

C. STS/Tipsy Taxi

Jessica Tran: lots of charters coming in. Formal season. It’s going normally I want to note on picnic day we expanded service and extended until 3 am. And that night we picked up 469 passengers. Made $1300. A normal night we get 150-180 people. So that was good. A week ago a new van for tipsy taxi came in. It’s currently in the unitrans shop right now getting a license. Since we do have a new van now, we have 2 new ones and we’re hoping there’s a decrease in cost and hoping this trend will continue for the next couple years. The older and more inefficient. Another thing I want to tell you guys is that some people from student housing came to me they were they health education and promotion center to include tipsy taxi on the app. They want to make a safe party app and want include tipsy taxi on the app. Another thing is all our vans have GPS systems. They’re mostly for dispatchers but we want to make that public for passengers because sometimes we run a little late or forget where to pick up. So they can see where van is so we’re not wasting time picking up people who left the location. This is currently in work and will hopefully launch next year.

Thomas: is there any opportunity for STS to reach out to specific organization that tend to go to conferences and groups together

Jessica: most our funds for ad go to tipsy taxi. Reason for ad tipsy taxi because we do run a deficit, it’s really costly maintaining poor vehicles, drivers, dispatchers. So we want to not only to promote tipsy taxi but also include STS.

V. Committee Reports

Sagala: APAC since the bill passed I haven’t worked with Kathy with ordering supplies of book store. Haven’t gotten copy of bill yet. Davis doesn’t have anywhere to paint the building. Contracted and tried to paint in theatre but it’s not practical because of bat boy. Asked about using dance studio in the basement but idk if that’d work either. Walker isn’t even occupied but idk who to. I’m not sure where’s a good place to ask. If anyone can direct me to the right directions, want the paintings done and finished at end of quarter. INC...

Canal: Bio committee? Election committee members How do they enforce their own rules, do you want members to file complaints, violations. Next restricting student’s ability to run and hold office based on graduation date. That question was answered by the court if you’re graduated you can’t hold office. If you wanna run you can, but you can’t hold office when not student. Did investigate other campuses and Berkeley they elected officials endorse canvas? Further investigate. In addition we talked about unit directors serving as treasurers. That’s permitted. If we remember we will post hirings so we’re going to clearly define time of hiring. Inconsistent with committee chairs. Look out for bill coming your way. Elections into one big election in spring quarter. Will in theory save $1000 or $2000. Further investigating that. Make references because in constitutions. Photos. Timing of court at the end of the quarter. They only have like a day to decide everything and it makes sense to give them that time. Bill hopefully on the way. Tuesday 3-10 on EMC

Thomas: URSAC was interesting. We found out MU first floor is similar to Carly’s presentations. Looking like we’ll have kinko’s type thing. Campus copies, classical notes, moving sta travel to bike hub. Bike hub is going to die. Aggie restore to bike barn. Third floor. We have a rough design it looks fantastic. No terrible numbers in this room and can’t visit them when we’re older. I withdraw that part. Moving on though the idea. Senate office having a window in the all. Window into senate office into hallway. There will be a window between the bullpen and senate office. Will make everything look a lot more professional. It would be much more inviting. Very excited to move forward. Aggiethreads, Aggie restore, post office, would also be in the 110 sq foot thing. Any questions, talk to me.

Bottoms: 36 boxes out of 800

Topf: I sat on the champagne award committee on Friday. Bikebarn, unitrans, and coho were there and we discussed basically how to market award is. Looked over flier to decide what’s the best option for that. Straightforward.

Bottoms: myself. We did not make this week for the scholarship I’ve been drowned in emails. I hope you all saw the google doc looking for people to chalk. Don’t have to pretend to be in ROTC and do for 3 days to see if chalkings stay up. So we can provide for students on campus. List serves. If you know for any that weren’t sent to please do so.
