Overview of the team and role

The Business Support Services team supports Comcare by providing claims decision support and operational training, compliance and fraud detection and investigation functions, operational standards and continuous improvement, and support for Comcare’s Claims Business systems operations.

The Assistant Director Operational Standards and Continuous Improvement leads and manages a small team that provides expert advice, support and direction to the ongoing management and continuous improvement of Comcare’sclaim management operations.

The person in this role engages with Directors and Executive across Comcare, providing key leadership to the ongoing management and continuous improvement of Claims and Liability Management:

  • Business capability, planning and governance arrangements
  • Risk Management, audit and performance reporting framework
  • Quality Assurance Framework and programme of quality assessment.

The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and better practice guidelines for governance.

Job specific capabilities

  1. Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a team.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience in managing key stakeholder relationships.
  3. Experience in the development, management and evaluation of business continuous improvement initiatives.
  4. A thorough understanding of, and experience in organisationalbusiness planning, governance and quality assurance and assessment of business processes.

Primary responsibilities

  1. Coordinate and report on strategic and operational business plans with Comcare’s planning and reporting requirements.
  2. Implement, lead, manage and review a program of quality assessment that drives continuous improvement and change.
  3. Manage and report on business risk register, including identification, management and mitigation.
  4. Provide expert advice on policy, legislation and processes.
  5. Promote and manage relationships with internal and external clients, stakeholders and service providers that builds commitment to shared goals.
  6. Develop solutions for complex issues, consult, review, evaluate and implement policies, procedures, processes, documents and tools that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations.
  7. Collaborate, participate and contribute organisational objectives.
  8. Provide leadership that builds a high performing culture and manage staff in day-to day activities including developing, coaching and performance management.
