Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

YES! Rayleigh CAN Sing!

Four years ago The BIG Sing started a choir in Rayleigh and challenged the local community to see if they could sing! The choir has gone from strength to strength and now has over 70 members of all ages meeting at Rayleigh Baptist Church every Thursday night. They really have proven that Rayleigh CAN sing!

‘We don’t want to stop there!’ comments The BIG Sing Founder, Gemma Francis. ‘We have created groups for babies and children and are starting more choirs after Easter! Our choir members tell us every week of how The BIG Sing has helped them through loneliness, depression, illness, and has helped them make new friends. Our music is uplifting, inspiring and motivating so even if you’ve had a stressful day you always leave rehearsal feeling happy. It’s now time to get the kids involved.’

The BIG Sing will start two brand new choirs TINY Sing with the babies and tots up to age 4 years from 10:00-10:30am for £3, and LITTLE Sing with the children age 5-11 years at 4:00-5.00pm for just £4 starting Wednesday 19th April.

We will continue with our Community Choir for all ages from 12 years! So whatever your age, there is a choir for you. You do not have to be pitch perfect, maybe you just like singing in the shower, whatever your reasons for coming you will find that we are one BIG happy family, uniting together to sing positive and uplifting songs. There is no need to book – just turn up, and there are no termly commitments, just pay as you go!!!

Gemma goes on to say ‘The pop music industry is getting darker and darker. More artists are singing about greed, sex and materialism. We don’t think it’s right that children are singing these type of lyrics, so we have created these choirs to give them positive music. We sing a mixture of pop, soul and gospel songs alongside some self-penned inspirational songs. All with the aim to make children feel happy, inspired and to show them they are unique!’

With this mission, The BIG Sing in partnership with Rayleigh Baptist Church, have organised school workshops in five schools in Rayleigh which all start after Easter. Up to 90 students in each school will have a BIG sing workshop every week, learning uplifting songs. The big finale concert is at Rayleigh Baptist Church on 13th & 14th July where the school children will perform what they have learnt to their family and friends giving them an amazing performance opportunity. Tickets will be on sale to the public from May, please go to for details. The schools workshops have been made available to the schools from The BIG Sing’s new charity, The B IG Sing SOUL, which aims to take music to vulnerable groups.

Gemma says “We want to capture what we have created and take it to those who can’t come to us, giving people an opportunity to sing motivating songs when they may not have considered it before and to enjoy the therapeutic qualities singing has. The charity will focus on three target audiences in Rayleigh – Schools, Disabled Groups and Hospital choirs. We want to share singing with all of the community. The BIG Sing Choir is living proof that by uniting together there is power in community. ‘Together we can achieve greatness’ “
