4-H BREEDING AND MARKET GILT SWINE SHOW CHAMPIONS NAMED

St. Paul, MN (08/24/13) - There were 488 hogs shown this year between the market and breeding shows at the Minnesota State Fair 4-H Show on Aug. 23rd. The breeding stock and market gilt shows were placed by Jim McCoy of Blommingburg, OH. Jim and his son, Mike, operate Real McCoy Genetics, a boar stud and show pig farm in Blommingburg, Ohio. In the past 33 years, Jim has traveled to 24 states as a swine judge. He also serves on the Youth Advisory Board for the National Swine Registry.

The top spots were captured by two Yorkshire hogs in this year’s show with the Overall Grand Champion Breeding Gilt shown by Troy Skaar of Lyon County and the Overall Reserve Champion Breeding Gilt exhibited by Claire Bastian of Nicollet County.

The Market Gilt Show offered extremely high quality animals for the judge to work from and in the end the Grand Champion was exhibited by Evan King of Le Sueur County and the Reserve Grand Champion honors awarded to Madison Dramen of Wright County.
