Instructional Components and Context

Readiness

Prior to the lesson, students will:
  • have some knowledge on how to create a website
  • be familiar with several of Kruger Products’ initiatives to protect the environment
  • be aware of several current issues dealing with the cooperative world and their impact on the environment

Groups of 3 Activity or as a Class
Description
In their groups, students are to brainstorm environmental problems or issues that have stemmed from the corporate world. Once these have been identified, students are to formulate scientific questions that are related to these current problems and issues, and come up with hypotheses on how these could be resolved or mitigated through the intervention of eco-friendly initiatives and technology. / Assessment for Learning
Students can use graphic organizers to help them record information.

Description
Next, students are to select one scientific question and its possible solution, and research it thoroughly using both newspaper and scientific magazine articles. Once all research has been completed, students are to create a website related to the topic their selected scientific question and hypothesis highlights.
Website requirements: (or go to PBWiki for more information)
1.Explain accurately the topic related to the scientific question and hypothesis
2.List common questions that people have concerning the corporate world’s commitment to the environment
3.Outline at least three misconceptions about the corporate world’s commitment to the environment with a rebuttal from a scientific viewpoint, as well as examples of companies that are environmentally conscious (e.g., Kruger Products)
4.Use images to help make your point
5.Write a maximum of two (2) single-spaced pages (doc.)
6.Include a title, the names of group members, the date, and all websites used / Assessment as Learning
