Article I: Name purpose and non-discrimination clause

Section I: Medical Students for Kids at the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health acting as an independent non-profit organization by Internal Revenue Service Guidelines

Section II: Purpose: The volunteer medical students are committed to improving the self-esteem, supportive environment and academic interests of the mentees, elementary school students who come from low socio-economic cultures. Our organization works to give students and their families’ access to health care insurance.

Section III: Non-discrimination clause: The organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for any reasons of race, color, creed, sexual orientation, national origin, sex, age, handicap or Vietnam-era veteran status.

Article II: Membership: Qualifications and categories of membership. All members of the organization must be volunteers and receiving no financial endowments to continue to work with the elementary students. All members must be of good standing with the Ohio State University and be committed to being a positive influence on the children’s outlook. Any action against such a purpose will be reviewed and acted upon by the committee members as deemed fit. Furthermore, if a member abuses his position in a way that could jeopardize the health and safety of a child or that could reflect poorly on the Ohio State University, then his/her case will be reviewed by the leadership and recommended for dismissal/removal from the organization.

Article III - Organization Leadership: Titles, terms of office, type of selection, and duties of the leaders.A President and a Vice President/Treasurer will be chosen each spring for the subsequent school year. Terms of leadership will last one year. Interested members will submit a brief statement of the reasons for their interest in the position(s) and will be chosen by the current group leadership. The President will be the main liaison with Big Brothers Big Sisters, while the Vice President/Treasurer will collaborate with the President in areas of recruitment and day-to-day operations, as well as manage the finances of the organization. If, for some reason, a leader of the organization fails to fulfill his/her duty, then all the members of leadership will meet to discuss the unsatisfactory performance and recommend a plan of action. If the said leader does not rectify his/her actions within 30 days of the initial warning, he/she shall be dismissed from his/her leadership position, but may still remain a member of the organization.

Article IX: Method of Dissolution of Organization

Medical Students for Kids can only be dissolved by a unanimous agreement of its leadership council. Should any excess assets remain, they will be passed on to Columbus public schools or go back to the donating organizations responsible for disbursement of said funds. Any debt incurred will be the responsibility of the leadership of Medical Students for Kids. Debt will be paid back to the contributing organizations.
