Nurse of the Year 2018

Purpose: To acknowledge and encourage excellence in direct patient care by neonatal nurses. The quality of care experienced by ill newborns and their families is determined, in large part, by the quality of nursing care provided by neonatal nurses at the bedside.

Criteria: 1. Nominees should be nurses providing direct patient care in a variety of capacities including bedside nursing, APRN’s, and/or educators.

2. Nominees should consistently demonstrate excellence in care for patients, their families and colleagues.

Specific Criteria:

  • Demonstrates expert communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail in daily practice
  • Must spend 75% of his/her time at the bedside
  • Excellent role model
  • Demonstrates excellence in clinical care & knowledge
  • Practices a model of family centered care

Application should be typed and include:

  • Current Employment Information and Employment history
  • Nursing education
  • Maximum of three letters of recommendation with specific examples of situations exemplifying the above criteria. Letters should include the writer’s credentials.

Selection Process

The finalists for the NEANN 2018 Nurse of the Year will be chosen by a select committee of peers. Nominees will be judged according to the quantity, quality, and impact of their achievements. Decisions will be made on the basis of the application alone. The nominees will be reviewed and a recommendation will be made to the NEANN Executive Committee which will ultimately decide on the winner.

Award Benefits

NEANN is sponsoring this year’s Nurse of the Year Award. The selected nurse will be granted a $1,000.00stipend to attend any Neonatal nursing conference of their choice. The award will need to be redeemed within one year.

Deadline: January 31, 2018

NEANN Nurse of the Year will be awarded at the NEANN Spring Conference on March 19, 2018
