Connecticut Juvenile Law – Train the Trainer

COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Police Officer Standards and Training Council’s Field Services Training Division, in cooperation with the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, is offering a comprehensive 2 hour training program, titled “Connecticut Juvenile Law – Train the Trainer.” The class will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Connecticut Police Academy, 285 Preston Avenue, Meriden, CT. The program instructor will be Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Francis J. Carino from the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney.

Because juvenile law can be complicated, confusing and ever changing, this class is designed primarily for persons certified to provide instruction in subject area 404, Juvenile Law/Dealing with Juveniles, to bring them up to date on changes in the laws and procedures applicable to handling juveniles in Connecticut and to provide a consistent training curriculum to the field.

Among the topics that will be covered are:

•  Child abuse/neglect reporting requirements

•  Police options for handling juvenile status (FWSN) offenders

•  Police options for handling juvenile delinquency offenders

•  Emancipation of minors

•  Juveniles and the marijuana law

•  Interviewing juveniles

•  Domestic violence when the offender is a juvenile

•  Navigating the “Connecticut’s Juvenile Law” website

The program is open to persons certified or preparing to become certified to teach subject area 404 as well as any police officers, prosecutors or investigators having an interest in the subject.

Students successfully completing the training will receive 2 hours Review Training Credit in Curriculum Area IV.

There is no tuition for this course.For this program, the uniform dress code for POSTC In-Service Training (POSTC General Notice 90-03) will be in effect.
