Thebalux installation manual

Installation manual

Congratulations on your purchaseof your bathroom furniture; you have

chosen very high quality bathroom furniture, made from the best materials.

Conditions of warranty and maintenance instructions

Thebalux B.V. of Zutphen gives a 5-year warranty in respect of any production defects of its bathroom furniture. A 1-year warranty shall apply to electrical components (transformer/converter/lamps etc.) and a 2-year warranty to the washbasins. Each article is thoroughly inspected. In the case of faulty or inadequate maintenance, your furniture warranty may lapse. In order to prevent this from happening, we desire to give you the following instructions for use and cleaning.

Instructions for use

  1. Before installing the furniture, check it for any missing parts or defects. Defects or missing parts must be reported to your sanitary equipment dealer before installation.
  1. Do not install a piece of bathroom furniture in the immediate vicinity of a bathtub or a shower in the absence of a fixed partition. The furniture must be protected from water splashes.
  1. Ensure good ventilation in the bathroom.
  1. Never hang wet towels or flannels over open doors and drawers or along the washbasin, since this may cause the furniture to swell up.
  1. The maximum temperature of water in the washbasin should not exceed 65°C. To ensure this, check your set boiler temperature.
  1. Do not use abrasive or aggressive products for cleaning the furniture.

Instructions for cleaning

  1. Furniture parts can best be cleaned with a moist, but not a wet cloth, or a soft sponge. Take care to ensure that no moisture shall stay behind and if necessary, wipe the surface with a dry cloth.
  1. Do not use any aggressive or abrasive cleaners. A household cleaner (a general cleaner) is adequate. If however you have to deal with stubborn stains, you can use hot water and a non-aggressive type of soap.
  1. Although mirrors are quite simple and easy to clean, it is necessary to take a number of precautions to maintain their even reflective power. The safest way to clean a mirror is to use a clean cloth and warm water, or a special mirror cleaning product. Ensure that the edges are perfectly dry after cleaning, showering or bathing. In that way, no cleaner residues or moisture able to cause damage shall remain on the edges or on the back.

Never spray a cleaning product directly onto the mirror. First wet a clean cloth with the cleaning product and wipe the reflecting surface with it. Never use acidic, alkaline or abrasive products, since these attack the edges on the front and the back of the mirror. Never use cleaning products containing a lot of ammonia.

  1. To preserve the glossy surface of the washbasin, it can be treated with Clean and Shine. This is obtainable from your sanitary equipment dealer, contributes to its water-repellent properties and can also remove small scratches.
  1. In the case of deep damage of the washbasin, a repair kit can be ordered from your sanitary equipment dealer.

If the furniture is maintained otherwise than in accordance with instructions, the warranty may lapse. Damage caused by faulty use is not covered by the Thebalux warranty.

Notwithstanding the great care bestowed on the furniture, we would ask you to inspect it carefully before installation.

IF PARTS SHALL BE FOUND TO BE MISSING, THEY MUST BE REPORTED TO YOUR SANITARY EQUIPMENT DEALER BEFORE THE INSTALLATION OF THE FURNITURE.

INSTALLATION OF KNOCK-DOWN FURNITURE IS TANTAMOUNT TO ITS ACCEPTANCE !

We advise you to have your bathroom furniture installed by a recognised installer.

Before making a start on the installation it is recommended that you should place the required tools ready to hand.

The following tools are needed for correct installation

-a drill with an 8-mm drill bit

-a no 2 Pozidrive screwdriver

-a spirit level

-a pencil

-a measuring rule/flexible steel rule

-an adjustable pipe wrench

-a hammer

-sealant /a sealant gun

-a gluing clamp

The furniture is installed in the following steps

  1. Installation of the base
  2. Installation of the washbasin
  3. Installation of the shelf
  4. Installation of the mirror wall or a mirror-faced cupboard
  5. Installation of a medium-high or high cupboard
  6. Installation of the shelf rack
  7. Installation of the canopy

1. Installation of the base

For measurement and/or the drill pattern we refer to the measurements table, which is also available on Internet on .

Before making a start on the installation, it is necessary to remove all doors and drawers. The doors can be removed by releasing the fastening on the back of the hinge. To remove the drawers you pull the drawer rapidly towards yourself and hold it up during the process of traction. Because the drawer presses upwards during the process of traction, one end of the drawer will slide over the stop of the drawer guide. You must withdraw the drawer from its item of furniture beyond the point where it normally stops.

After the removal of the doors and the drawers, an empty cupboard remains in order that it can be easily handled and that damage is prevented.

The standard height of the upper edge of the washbasin is 90cm. Measure out the holes to be drilled for the screw hooks and ensure that the water supply and the waste have been introduced in the right places. The adjustable hooks are suspended from the screw hooks. Drill the holes for the screw hooks into the wall, but do not as yet drill the holes for the hook brackets (if present)! Insert the plugs into the wall and screw in the furnished screw hooks. The screw hooks must point upwards and project about 5 mm from the wall.

Before suspending the cupboard on the cupboard suspensions (on the underside of the cupboard), turn the adjustment screw on the front of the cupboard suspension to the left, in order to create an adequate space. Thereafter suspend the cupboard on the wall, passing the screw hook through the open hook. Now lay a spirit level on the cupboard and adjust the cupboard level with the adjustment screws on the underside of the cupboard suspensions.

When the cupboard has been adjusted to be exactly level, mark off the installation points for the hook brackets (if present). Pull the underside of the cupboard from the wall and drill the holes. This prevents the drilling waste from penetrating into the drawer guides and cause unnecessary repair costs. Following the drilling operation, the cupboard can again be suspended from the adjustable hooks and the cupboard is then drawn to the wall by turning the screw hooks on the cupboard suspensions to the right. The cupboard can be fastened to the hook brackets by means of the furnished (screw) bolts.

2. Installation of the washbasin

Ensure that the top of the cupboard base is level and then carefully withdraw the washbasin from its packing.

Remove the protective sheet and prior to installation check the basin for any damage. Cover the basin if any drilling needs to be done above it, in order to prevent any penetration of drilling waste and possible damage.

Before placing the washbasin, the taps should be fitted; this simplifies the subsequent connection. Any furnished overflow should likewise be fitted. It should be ensured that the water supply and the waste connections have been fitted as well as possible.

After placing 2 lines of sealant (acid-free silicone) on the outer sides of the cupboard, the washbasin is placed on the cupboard ensuring that the latter has been pressed as close as possible to the wall. After the washbasin has been fixed on the base cupboard, the gap between the back of the washbasin andthe wall is sealed with a sealing compound.

Attention! If you have the You, Nera, Global or Sunny Evolution bathroom furniture, the washbasin will have no overflow opening. In the case of this furniture it is necessary to use a Clou overflow system or a continuous waste in order to avoid any excess of water.

Imitation marble washbasins

N.B.Imitation marble washbasins should not be exposed to temperatures in excess of 65° C. The boiler temperature should be set accordingly. Not to be used in the washbasin are acids and/or similar substances, abrasive cleaning products, hair dye products, ammonia, unblocking products, or bleaches. No holes must be drilled in the washbasin!

Ceramic washbasins

N.B. The following tolerances have been set by the washbasin manufacturer in his production process:

If the washbasin has been placed on the piece of furniture with its back close to the wall, a sealant seam no thicker than 5 mm is allowed to form on the left and on the right of the centre. Washbasins falling within these tolerance limits shall accordingly not entitle the purchaser to make a complaint. If a washbasin is outside set tolerance limits, the purchaser shall be entitled to make a complaint provided the washbasin is installed.

3. Installation of the shelf

Shelf

Installation eyelets are furnished with the shelf and are to be fitted into the shelf (Attention! The open side of the eyelets must be on the underside, so that the closed side slides over the screw hook). After measuring out the installation points for the screw hooks the holes can be drilled.

The plugs are inserted into the wall and the furnished screw hooks are screwed in. The screw hooks must point upwards and project about 2 mm from the wall.

The shelf can be inserted by slidingthe installation eyelets at the back over the screw hooks. If it is not level, the screw hooks may be tapped upwards or downwards with a hammer.

Glass shelf

This shelf can be located according to your preference (in view of the large differences in the height of taps). The fixing points for the suspension are measured and marked. Make sure the marked points are level using a spirit level. The holes can then be pre-drilled and the shelf supports and the shelf fitted.

4. Installation of mirrors

Mirror

The mirror strips are placed on the washbasin or on the shelf and the mirror can be set into the mirror strips. The other mirror strip can be placed at the top of the mirror and fastened with flat-headed screws. The canopy is placed over the screws at a later stage and shall no longer be visible.

Mirror wall/mirror-faced cupboard/mirror-faced sliding cupboard

Preparation of the mirror wall

If applicable, the lamp shall first be installed on the mirror wall.

Preparation of the mirror-faced cupboard

After removing the doors, the lamps are, when opting for structure illumination, installed at the top of the cupboard. The lamp connector is located at the back of the mirror-faced cupboard. If a canopy is to be placed at the back of the mirror-faced cupboard, it is necessary to do so after the latter has been installed.

Preparation of the mirror-faced sliding cupboard.

Fix the lightingto the mirror-faced sliding cupboard.

A damping strip is placed at the back of the first door of the mirror-faced cupboard so that the grips shall not come in contact with the mirrors when the cupboard is slid open. The diagram shows that the damping strip is 5 cm in front of the grip at the back of the mirror. Prior to the installation of the grips, the sealing rings are placed in the drilled holes in the mirror. If this is not done, there the mirror may crack in the vicinity of the grips. Doors are only placed after the mirror-faced sliding cupboard has been suspended.

Measure out the holes to be drilled for the suspension of the mirror-faced cupboard/wall and following suspension, it can be placed inside the cupboard. Before adjustment, the mirror wall is pulled away from the wall (because of blind fixing to the wall); the mirror-faced sliding cupboard can also be placed inside the cupboard.

The three-core cable is to be connected directly to the wall socket and the mirror shall then be able to be suspended. Following suspension, the mirror-faced doors can be replaced on the mirror-faced cupboard, or the sliding mirrors can be placed in the mirror-faced sliding cupboard. If necessary, the doors of the mirror-faced cupboard can be adjusted (see chapter 9: adjustment of hinges/drawers on page 11).

5. Installation of the medium high / high cupboard

Before beginning on the installation, all doors and drawers must be removed. The doors can be removed by unbolting the fastening from the back of the hinge. To remove a drawer, it is drawn rapidly towards the installer and held during the process of being drawn upwards. In order that the drawer shall exert an upward pressure during the process of withdrawal, it shall slide over the drawer guide stop. The drawer shall be withdrawn from its piece of furniture and hence further than the point where it normally stops.

Following the removal of the doors and drawers, an empty cupboard shall remain so that it shall be easy to handle and so that any damage shall be prevented.

Measure out the holes to be drilled, drill the holes for the screw hooks into the wall, insert the plugs and screw in the furnished screw hooks, which shall point upwards and project about 5 mm from the wall.

Before suspending the cupboard on the cupboard suspensions (inside the cupboard), the adjustment screw on the front of the cupboard suspension are turned to the left in order to create adequate space. The cupboard is then suspended on the wall by pushing the screw hook through the open hook.

A spirit level is now laid on the cupboard and the cupboard is adjusted to be horizontal, using the adjustment screws on the underside of the cupboard suspensions. After adjustment the cupboard is drawn to the wall by turning the adjustment screws on the front of the cupboard suspensions to the right.

It is possible to fasten the supplied cover for the medium-high cupboard by means of gluing. Two adhesive strips are placed at the top of the medium-high cupboard and the cover is introduced. It can be held in place using a gluing clamp.

6. Installation of the shelf-rack

Installation eyelets are supplied for the installation of the shelf-rack. These are placed in the rack prior to installation (Attention: The open side of the eyelets must be underneath, so that the closed side slides over the screw hook). After measuring out the installation points for the screw hooks the holes can be drilled.

Insert the plugs into the wall and screw in the furnished screw hooks. The screw hooks shall point upwards and project about 2 mm from the wall.

The shelf-rack can be placed by sliding the installation eyelets on the back over the screw hooks. Should the shelf-rack not be level, the screw hooks can be tapped upwards or downwards with a hammer.

7. Installation of the canopy

The furnished hook fastenings are fitted on the canopy in order to facilitate its installation on the wall. The canopy is placed on the mirror/mirror-faced cupboard and the points where the bolts shall enter the wall, are marked. The canopy is drawn away from the mirror/mirror-faced cupboard and the holes are drilled. The plugs are inserted into the wall and the canopy is replaced. The bolts are then screwed into the wall.

8. Installation

Now that all the items of furniture have been installed, the doors and drawers are replaced. The doors are fastened by means of installing clips (clipping in of the hinges, no screwing) and the drawers by placing them on the guides and pressing them inwards so that it is possible to hear the drawer clicking into place (see illustration).

It shall be ensured that the white hooks of the guides (visible on the underside of the drawer) shall be at the front of the drawer. If they are not located there, the front of the drawer is held and the white hook is pressed in the direction of the drawer until it is felt to click into place.

If all these steps have been adopted, it is then, if necessary, possible to adjust the doors and the drawers (see chapter 9: Adjustment of hinges/adjustment of drawers on page 11).

After adjustment, the furnished cover caps can be placed on the hinges and drawers and the dampers can be clicked over the hinges.

Before bringing the furniture into use, be ensured that it has been professionally glued together with an acid-free sanitary fitting adhesive in order to prevent any subsequent damage by water.

We advise that a qualified installer should be approached for connecting the water waste.
