Throughout the mid 1700’stensions rose between the American colonists and the English monarch. Eventually the king issued taxes on the colonies to pay for the French and Indian War. Below are 5 actions the British made that caused the colonists to be unhappy with the British government.

There was arguing between the British and the colonists. Three British actions included the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, and the Tea Act.

King George issued the Sugar Act to pay for the French and Indian War. The Sugar Act was a tax on sugar and molasses. This was the first tax on the colonists. The Sons of Liberty said, “No taxation without representation!” The colonists didn’t think it was fair.

The Stamp Act was a tax on all paper products. The act made colonists pay for an official stamp or seal when they bought paper. Many people refused to buy the stamps. The king eventually did away with the Stamp Act.

The Tea Act encouraged people to buy tea from the British East India Company. Tea was their favorite drink! Boston tea sellers hated this because they wanted to sell people the tea. The Sons of Liberty dressed as Indians and threw the tea in the Boston harbor.
