Confidential Declarations
Within Carers Link, staff and volunteers carry out work that often brings you into contact with vulnerable groups, namely children and young people, old and elderly people and people with a disability. It is our policy that Volunteers and successful job applicants become members of the new Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme. More information on the PVG Scheme can be found
This form provides you with the opportunity to declare any convictions or allegations before we reach the stage of scheme membership. Having a criminal record will not necessarily stop you from working or volunteering. It will depend on the nature of the position, together with the circumstances and background of the offences.
For staff positions - Please complete and return it with your application. It will initially be read only by the CEO and Office Manager. If you are short-listed for interview it will be shared with other members of the interview panel under the strictest of confidence.

Carers Link has a full Policy on Recruitment outlining all stages of the process, and this is available on The Policy also details recruitment in relation to people with criminal convictions.

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 was established to create equal access to employment for ex-offenders. Provided you have not been re-convicted for another offence and your sentence was for less than two-and-a-half years, your conviction is said to become spent and to be treated as though it never existed. However, the Exceptions Order 1975, allows Carers Link to be exempted from this Act, as we carry out work that brings the person into contact with vulnerable groups. This Exceptions Order thus overrules rights in relation to “spent convictions” and these must therefore be disclosed.
