Job Purpose: / Leads the development of Concern UK’s major donor fundraising strategy in England, Wales and Scotland, to build long term partnerships with Concern UK’s major donors and deliver sustainable income growth.
Main duties & Responsibilities: / Leading the development of Concern UK’s major donor fundraising strategy, to achieve sustainable income growth:
  • Develop the major donor fundraising strategic plan, delivering income and expenditure forecasts on an annual, three year and five year basis.
  • Lead the development of effective major donor engagement programmesthat build the loyalty of current donors and attract new supporters, testing and evaluating new approaches as required
  • Lead the design of compelling and inspiring cases for support, to enable the development of substantial new major donor initiatives that drive income growth
  • Develop, monitor and reporton key performance indicators to evaluate performance, identify opportunities to improve effectiveness - and provide the Director of Fundraising with regular progress reports.
  • Contribute to the development of the overall fundraising strategic plan, working with the Director of Fundraising and other fundraising managers.
Building relationships:
  • Personally represent Concern UK to potential new high value donors, making high value donation asks as required and establishing long term relationships
  • Act as the main day to day contact for Concern’s high value individual donors worth £25K plus, including regular face to face meetings, to establish long term relationships
  • Act as the main day to day contact with appeal board members and other high value donors, including regular face to face meetings
  • Build relationships with Concern UK Trustees and key Concern Worldwide personnel, acting as an effective link between them and key high value donors
  • Utilise senior Concern staff and trustees to represent Concern as required in building relationships with donors and prospects
  • Work closely with major donor and other colleagues in Concern US, Concern ROI and the Concern UK Belfast office to ensure strategies are co-ordinated as effectively as possible
Effective line management:
  • Manage the Major Donor Partnerships Officer and Major Donor Partnerships Assistant, setting and monitoring individual objectives
  • Provide management, coaching, training and development support, including regular one-to-ones and annual appraisals.
  • Identify, encourage and support innovation
  • Supervise interns and volunteers as required
Implementation and delivery:
  • Develop, implement and monitor annual operational plans and budgets
  • Approach and develop potential new high value donors worth £5,000 plus, including personally soliciting donations or utilizing members of the Senior Management team to do so as appropriate
  • Directly responsible for managing and developingConcern UK’s relationships with high value donors (worth £25,000 plus) and where appropriate accompanying donors to visit overseas projects
  • Oversee research and undertake networking to ensure new prospects are identified and effective engagement strategies put in place.
  • Oversee the development of strong engagement and stewardship programmes, including the organisation of regular engagement events, including receptions, briefings, discussions and dinners.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Concern’s overseas work to act as a credible senior point of contact for major donors and prospects, capable of explaining Concern’s programme work in depth.
  • Liaise with the Concern’s International Programmes department, Overseas information Officer and country programme staff where appropriate to identify projects that will inspire Concern’s major donors
  • Oversee the development and submission of timely progress reports and detailed financial reports, to maintain donors’ commitment and support.
  • Ensure adequate and up-to-date records are kept on donors and the specificfunded programmes.

Person specification: / ESSENTIAL KEYSKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Educated to degree level
  • 5 years major donor fundraising experience, including at least 2 in major donor fundraising management
  • Credible and knowledgeable major donor fundraiser with the ability and confidence to inspire support among new and current high value donors.
  • Target driven and pro-active, with a proven track record in leading a successful major donor programme and manging a major donor team to drive sustainedincome growth.
  • Proven track record in personally soliciting high value gifts (£25K+) from major individual donorsand in developing long term relationships.
  • Experience of working in an international development organisation and credible knowledge of international development and programme issues
  • Expertise in producing in-depth, motivating and inspiring proposals and reports
  • Demonstrable strategic and creative approach to developing new and effective fundraising approaches
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate confidently, both orally and in writing, at the most senior levels
  • Effective in networking, negotiation and influencing others
  • Effective in line-managing and developing staff
  • Excellent personal organisation skills, demonstrable experience of managing a diverse workload and working to deadlines
  • Able to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative
DESIRABLE KEYSKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • International development qualification
  • Experience of working with patrons, ambassadors and senior officials
  • Proven events experience
  • Good understanding of marketing theory, strategy, tools and techniques
