Course Description:
As a student in this course, you will learn the most important topics of Microsoft Office 2013. You will be presented with an overview of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint. You will learn to use Word to create and format tables as well as illustrated documents and work with themes. You will move on to Excel where you will analyze data using formulas and manage workbook data. You will also learn about using tables and analyzing table data. Access will be used to learn about modifying database structure and improving table queries. You will also learn about PowerPoint and how to work with advanced tools and features as well as inserting illustrations, objects and media clips. Along the way you will have lessons on how to integrate all the applications together.

NOTE: Failure to follow procedure will result in a grade of zero. Assignments with no name will go in the trash. Students must follow all directions for handing in assignments. Disorganized assignments (pages out of order, mislabeled, unreadable, etc.) will receive a grade of zero.

Course Structure:
The class is primarily a computer lab instructed class. Students will use a variety of technological means throughout this course.
  1. Lectures: Important material from the text and outside sources will be covered in class. Students should plan to take careful notes as not all material can be found in the texts or readings. Discussion is encouraged as is student-obtained outside material relevant to topics being covered.
  2. Assignments: End of chapter activities and online activities will be assigned weekly to reinforce material in the text. These assignments may require the application of various software packages.
  3. Quizzes: Occasional unannounced quizzes will be given to help ensure students stay up with assigned material.
  4. Exams: Exams will be closed book/notes and will test assigned readings and material discussed in class. Review sheets will be provided. The instructor reserves the right to retest on material that was not appropriately comprehended.
Semester Exam:
Each student takes a semester exam in this course. There are no exemptions.
Make Up Work & Grade Recovery Policy:
  1. If student has an excused absence the following apply:
  2. The student MUST initiate a request for make-up work upon the first day returning to class. Failure to do so will result in a lost opportunity for credit for the missed work.
  3. Any pre-scheduled activity or assignment missed will be due the first day back to school.
  4. Students will have the number of days they missed days to make up work (including 1st day back). If missing work is not submitted within the timeframe guideline a grade of zero will be recorded.
  5. Students with unexcused absences will not be allowed to make up work.
  6. Grade Recovery:

If a student chooses to re-take a failing test grade during the nine weeks, the student will be given an alternative assignment which may consist of any and all material covered, may be in a different format, and must be completed based on the specification stated by the instructor (including specific date and time to be complete). Failure to attend the specified time and date or complete the assignment in the allotted time will result in a zero for the test.
Late Work Policy: (does not apply to illness/absences)
  • Late daily/homework assignments:
  • Will be accepted one school day late for a maximum grade of 70
  • Will not be accepted three school days late.
School and Classroom Policies:
All policies described in the Warren County High School 2016-2017 Student Handbook apply in this classroom. This includes but is not limited to the following: academic dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism), rules of conduct, attendance and tardies (be in your seat before the bell sounds), and make-up policies.
Classroom Rules:
  1. Be respectful of equipment, materials, guests, each other and yourself. Think before you speak! Be courteous and use your manners. Rudeness will not be tolerated!
  2. NO food or drinks in class.
  3. Take care of your personal needs between classes
  4. Arrive to class on time.
  5. Be prepared with class supplies/materials daily.
  6. Unless the teacher determines that it is an emergency, you DO NOT ask to leave the room.
  7. Follow all school and computer lab rules.
  8. Class time is not meant for sleeping, reading the newspaper, playing games on the computer, working on homework for another class, or using the computer for purposes other than what relates to our classroom work (i.e. Instant Messaging or e-mail). My time and that of your classmates is valuable. Please pay attention so that you will understand the lesson and get the work done in a timely manner.
COMING TO CLASS ON TIME, BEING PREPARED AND ORGANIZED AND COMPLETING ASSIGNMENT ON TIME IS ESSENTIAL FOR SUCCESS IN THIS COURSE.
