Common Task #1
Situation: You are going to be an exchange student in (country) for three months. Write a letter to your host family introducing yourself. Be sure to include information about why you are writing to them.
Guidelines:
You may wish to include

•information about your own family


•questions about the host family


•information about where you live and what your town is like


•your likes and interests


•questions about your host brother or sister and his or her likes and interests


•what you want to do while there

You must use at least 120 words. Use the rubric as a guide.

Editing Checklist for LOTE
oDoes it accomplish the task?
oIs it organized? Does it have smooth transitions?
oDoes it include a wide variety of vocabulary? (above level 1)
oDo the subjects and verbs agree? (if you use the Uds/ form, does the verb end appropriately?)
oDo the nouns and adjectives agree? (if you describe a feminine person, is the adjective feminine?)
oAre the words in the right order? (no apostrophes, nouns usually before adjectives)
oIs the paper legible, neat, and pleasing to the eye?
oIs the paper organized, with information connected logically?
oDoes it have 120 or more comprehensible words in the target language?
