40 hour Full time K1 Teacher Position
Position Description / This is a 40 hour position with up to 25 hours of contact time and 15 hours of non-contact time to undertake assessment, learning stories and any other duties required in the Kindergarten.
Waiouru Kindergarten is situated in the Waiouru Military Camp and is set in large attractive grounds with a magnificent view of the mountains Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngaruahoe. The kindergarten buildings, grounds and equipment are of high standard and are well maintained. Waiouru Kindergarten operates under an All Day License with five 9.5 hour days per week and has mixed age grouping of 0 – 5 year old children. The kindergarten provides an educationally diverse programme. The Under two’s and over two’s are currently housed in the one Kindergarten Building. Waiouru Kindergarten belongs to the Whanganui Kindergarten Association who is a member of New Zealand Kindergarten Incorporated.
Waiouru is a transient community consists of a mixture of military personnel and civilians mainly employed by the military and this can create a high turnover of children and committee members and teachers. The community has an ethnic mix – European, Maori, Pacific Islanders, Asians and the population is young.
Waiouru Derived from “Te-Wahi-Oru-Nga-Tangata” which translates into “The place that all must pass through”, is situated on the junction of State Highway One and Provincial Highway 47 and is located in the Central Plateau.
Waiouru is a doorway to the “Great Outdoor Adventures” and offers a wide range of recreational, social, cultural, sports organization and facilities, and ready access to a varied array of opportunities. The community offers an excellent pool and gymnasium facility and is in close proximity to the Turoa and Whakapapa Ski Fields.
Teacher Position Profile / The successful applicant will:
-Work with Staff and the Association in providing quality education and care which meets the individual needs of children in the kindergarten.
-A proven ability to implement the curriculum and that curriculum knowledge is up to date, is able to be communicated and documented.
-Ensure that quality learning and teaching is provided which upholds the principles, strands and goals of TeWhaariki
-Implement effective teaching, which promotes quality learning for children
-Understanding of and ability to implement positive guidance strategies for children where appropriate.
-Develop a partnership with parents, which ensures that recognition is given to parents as having a major role in the decision making concerning their child, and to teachers as professionals.
-Communicate sensitively and objectively to parents about the educational needs and progress of children
-Ensure that the kindergarten is responsive to the needs of families
-Good administration including knowledge and the use of ICT
-Recognise the importance of the wider community in providing the best care and education for children
-Commitment to on-going personal and professional development by having the ability to identify and initiate a planned approach
-Comply with Legislative Requirements, WFKA Bylaws, Charter and Policies

-Valuing parents as partners in the Kindergarten, being an effective communicator to work with whanau and community
-Having an ability to effectively work within the teaching team, including using effective communication techniques
-Being sensitive to cultural and ethnic diversity and commitment to the principles and practices of the Treaty of Waitangi.
