2) E-book: In your e-book read the chapters 1 through 11. Access your e-book by clicking on the links on the right hand side of the page. The Prelude (the first chapter in the e-book) is an explanation of how to use your Study Space and contains no outline or musical examples. Be sure to review this first before reading further.

3) Study Plan: Review the key points of each chapter by clicking on the Study Plan link on the right side of the page.

4) Outline: Click on the outline link on the right hand side of the page and review the terms and concepts for each of the chapters 1 through 11.

5) Listen and Download: None

6) Connect: Browse the items under the “Connect” category

7) Flashcards: Click on the flashcards link and create and review your own flashcards for memorization.

8) Quiz+ : None

Week 2

starting Monday January 16, 2012

Due no later than 9PM on the following Sunday

1) E-book: In your e-book read the chapters 12 and 13. Access your e-book by clicking on the links on the right hand side of the page.

2) Study Plan: Review the key points of each chapter by clicking on the Study Plan link on the right side of the page.

3) Outline: Click on the outline link on the right hand side of the page and review the terms and concepts for chapters 12 and 13.

4) Listen and Download: Click on the Listen and Download link and listen to the musical examples for chapters 13. Take the listening quiz on both Hildegard and Machaut. After completing the test, you will be asked to forward the results to me. Do so at . Also send a copy to your own email for backup. It is recommended that you download the examples and store them on your iPod or computer for repeated listening.

6) Flashcards: Click on the flashcards link and create and review your own flashcards for memorization. Most of the quizzes are derived from these terms and concepts.

7) Quiz+ : Click on the Quiz+ link and take the quiz for chapter 13 and email your results to Dr. Nelson at . When prompted to select the number of questions, select “10”.

9) Musical Comment: Go to the Cerritos College website ( Click on “TalonNet”. Log in. Select the proper class. Go to “Tests & Quizzes”, then select the appropriate week for your comment. Post your response. This is a large part of your grade. Your response should be a coherent, grammatically correct assessment of the music. Please make a comment on the music that you have heard in this chapter(s). What purpose did music serve? How does it compare to other styles of music? What was your reaction to the music? Feel free to add any other comments you wish. Please use proper English with good grammar. Comments below the college writing level will receive no points! Use no more than 150 words to demonstrate that you have listened and understood the music.

10) Online Listening Lab Quiz: This is different the than the “Listen and Download” section. Apart from simple identification of the piece, this quiz asks more in depth questions. To start, look for the “Online Listening” link at the top of the Study Space page. Click and then select “Access Premium Content”. In order to enter you must pay for access. See the syllabus for details or the Norton website. Next, click on “Returning User” (if not returning, purchase access here). You will now enter your email and password (given to you when you purchased access). After submitting this data, click on “Enter the Site”. Now click on “Music Identification Listening Quiz”. Select “Medieval Music”. Take the quiz and email your results to Dr. Nelson at .
