Overall responsibility

  • To lead, manage, develop and maintain high quality SEN provision which enables quality teaching, excellent learning outcomes and success for all pupils.
  • To model effective teaching, to coach and train colleagues to enable them to provide excellent provision for all learners.
  • To keep all aspects of paperwork including records and policies, up to date and actioned as appropriate.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications and experience / E/D
  1. Qualified teacher status

  1. National Qualification for Special Educational Need Co-ordination
/ E
  1. Further specialist qualification in an aspect of SEN e.g. ASD, SpLD, dyslexia
/ D
  1. At least 4 years successful teaching experience within the primary age range
/ E
  1. Evidence of sound knowledge of effective quality first teaching and intervention strategies
/ E
  1. Demonstrate experience working collaboratively with parents, colleagues, governors and the local community
/ E
  1. Experience of monitoring and evaluating effective teaching and learning
/ E
  1. Proven experience in effective liaison with a range of outside agencies
/ E
Professional knowledge and understanding
  1. Knowledge and understanding of the expectations within the new EYFS and National Curriculum
/ E
  1. Knowledge and understanding of current developments and best practice in SEN legislation and use of pupil premium grant
/ E
  1. Knowledge of the range and type of interventions and strategies for a range of different needs available
/ E
  1. Confident use of ICT, including classroom technologies

  1. The effective management of provision for SEND
/ E
  1. Understanding of safeguarding procedures

  1. Ability to use performance data to inform provision mapping and planning
