Read Hebrews 13:1-3

1)What does the author say about hospitality in this passage? Why do you think the author highlighted the importance of not neglecting hospitality? Consider Genesis 18:1-8, Genesis 19:1-9, and Luke 10:25-37.

2)Recall these previous passages: Hebrews 10:32-33 and 11:37. What were some possible temptations for the readers to not help those who were in trouble, imprisoned, or being persecuted?

Read John 13:34-35. Ask God to reveal on how you could better love others.

Day 2 / THEN

Read Hebrews 13:4-6

3)In this passage, what specific and possible issues were the readers dealing with within their church? What specific instructions were given regarding sexual sins? (Consider Hebrews 10:26-31)

4)When considering Hebrews 10:34, we sense there were many things that the readers were worried about especially when it came to finances. In Hebrews 13:5-6, what biblical response does the author want the readers to have? (Consider Deuteronomy 31:6 and 1 Timothy 6:17)

Read Psalm 28:7.Ask the Lord to protect your marriage and from the greed of money and things possessions.

5)Consider Hebrews 13:1-2 and Matthew 25:35. How can Christians always to show their love to one another?

6)Consider Hebrews 13:3 and the exultation from James 5:13. How is prayer always one form of care for those who are being persecuted or enduring a difficult trial in their life?

Read Psalms 66:19. We have a Father who listens to our cries. Pray for someone who is hurting or going through a difficult time.

Day 4 / ALWAYS

Read Hebrews 13:4-6

7)When considering Hebrews 13:4 and Ephesians 5:5-6, what should always be a part of a Christian’s response to someone who says he is not so concerned about sexual purity because he knows that God is a forgiving God?

8)Read Hebrews 13:5-6 and Exodus 20:17. How does our culture encourage and inflame the discontentment that accompanies materialism? How should Christians always respond to this encouragement and inflamed discontent?

Read Psalm 7:10. Give thanks to God for being your shield and protector, who saves from temptation.

  • Based on the “always“statements you discovered, determine practical and personal plans, whichyou can work on in your own life.
  • These plans generally should be ones that go into effect “right now”and contain words like “I,”“me,”“my,”or names of people you interact with frequently.
  • Good “now’statements drive Christians to prayer.

10)Think of two Christians who are going through some kind of painful trial that involves mistreatment. Describe a strategy that will prompt you to remember their difficulties throughout the week and explain how you will provide support for them through this trying time.

Read Hebrews 13:4-6

11)When protecting your sexual purity and the upholding of your marital covenant, what patterns, hobbies, relationships, pastimes or habits do you think God would assess as potential vulnerabilities in your life? What will you do to counter those vulnerabilities?

12)Read Hebrews 13:6 and Matthew 6:25-34. How do Jesus’ words in this passage address the concerns and anxieties you encounter in your daily life?

Read Psalms 139:23-24. Ask God to reveal any sin in your life. Confess those sins and ask for forgiveness.
