Comparison between Wicca and Christianity

Wicca / Christianity
God / God is often seen as a non-personal, pantheistic, “one” life force. Wicca worships a pantheon of Roman, Celtic, Egyptian, Greek gods and goddesses. The (Mother) goddess (i.e., the Lady) and (The Horned) god (i.e., the Lord) are seen together and are said to be the ideal balance of the two, but the goddess is usually seen as superior to the inferior god. / The Bible tells us that there is one God (Deut. 6:4) and portrays Him as personable and knowable (John 17:3). The Bible also pictures God as a loving Father or the Aramaic term “Abba” (Romans 8:15). This term is equivalent today to “Daddy”. God is the “Father of all mercies and God of all comfort” to Christians (2 Corinthians 1:3).
Jesus Christ / Jesus plays little to no role in Wicca. Wiccans vary – some believe He was just a man, some believe He was an occultist and used magick and occultic rites, some believe Him to be a witch with a coven of His own. But all reject Him as God incarnate and the Savior who died for our sins. / Jesus is God in the “Flesh”. The Bible says that only God is the Savior (Is. 43:11) but the New Testament calls Jesus the Savior (Titus 2:13-14). The Bible says that only God is the Creator (IS. 44:24) but the New Testament says that Jesus is the Creator (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16).
Sin & Salvation / There is no sin so there is no need to confess sin and no need for salvation and thus, no need for a savior. Wiccans believe that instead, they are to own up to their mistakes, take responsibility for them and make things right whenever they can. / The Bible says that “all have sinned” (Romans 3:23) but Jesus provided away for us to get back into fellowship with God. Jesus came into the world for the purpose of dying for you and me (John 12:27) and He said that His blood “is shed for many for the remission of sins” (Matt 26:28). “Behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2)
Resurrection / There is no resurrection only reincarnation. Our spirits travel from body to body as we are born over and over again until we learn all the lessons, and then we are absorbed into the “One Universal” non-personal life force. / At the heart of Christianity is the belief that Jesus was physically raised from the dead (Luke 24:39; 1 Corinthians15:14) and believers have that future hope as well. Resurrection is proved by the empty tomb and reincarnation is not taught in the Bible.
Authority / Wicca has no authoritative governing body and no authoritative scriptures, but only intuitive practices that differ by traditions (i.e., Alexandrian Wicca, Celtic Wicca, Dianic Wicca, Gardnerian Wicca, etc.). The witch Starhawk says that “the Craft calls on each of us to be our own authority…” / The Bible claims to be authoritative in all matters pertaining to life and Godliness (2 Tim. 3:15-17) and Jesus Christ refers to Scripture as an authority 56 times. Jesus quotes directly from Scripture, implying even that specific words are from God, more than 81 times.
Truth / Truth is relative. What’s true for me isn’t necessarily true for you and vice versa. There is no absolute right and wrong. / Jesus said “I am the truth” (John 14:6) and then said “When you have seen Me, you have seen the Father” (John 14:9), He was saying that God is truth. The Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, is called “the Spirit of truth” (John 16:13) “because the Spirit is truth” (1 John 5:6). Relativism makes no sense -- if someone says “truth is relative”, is that a true statement?
Wicca / Christianity
Death / After death, you go to “Summerland” where you mull over the life you just lived and the lessons learned and when the time is right and conditions are correct; your soul is reincarnated into another body. / Hebrews 9:27 says that “it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” The Bible says that at the judgment some “will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” (Matthew 25:46).
Satan / Wiccans are not Satan worshippers. In fact, most Wiccans don’t believe in Satan at all. / Satan is real. The Bible calls him our adversary (1 Peter 5:8), the devil (Matthew 4:1), the evil one (1 John 5:19), father of lies (John 8:44), murderer (John 8:44), a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8) and the tempter (Matthew 4:3).
Personal Experiences / Truth is very subjective and is based on feelings. Personal experiences are sought and they trump doctrine and dogmatic beliefs. / Subjective feelings ebb and flow. One moment you’re happy and the next moment can throw you into a pit of despair. The Bible calls God true (John 17:3), Jesus is truth (John 14:6) and the Spirit is the “Spirit of truth” (John 16:13). The Bible says that God never changes (Malachi 3:6; Psalm 102:25-27; James 1:17) thus since God is Truth and truth never changes or is unchanging, we need to test all things (1 Thessalonians 5:21, 22), not against personal experiences, but against the Bible.
Human Beings / Since human beings are part of the earth and since the earth is part of the goddess and god, human beings have an inner divinity within them. As witch Margot Adler stated, “Thou art Goddess. Thou art God.” / We know that human beings are not divine when the Bible says that we “fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) and while God’s knowledge is limitless (Matthew 11:21), our knowledge is limited (Job 38:4). God is all-powerful (Revelation 19:6), but humans are weak (Hebrews 4:15). God is present everywhere (Psalm 139:7-12), but man is finite and limited to a single space and time (John 1:50). God is holy (Isaiah 6:3), but even mans best deeds are as “filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). God is love (Ephesians 2:4, 5), but man is filled with “envy, strife and division” (1 Corinthians 3:3).
Magick & the Occult / Magick is viewed as a means to harness power to manipulate events into one’s own favor. Various forms of occultism are used in the practice of Wicca. For example, dowsing, palm reading, tarot cards, astrology, numerology, Ouija boards, necromancy (consulting the dead), reading tea-leaves, crystal balls, etc. / The Bible prohibits all kinds of magick (Deuteronomy 18:10-14), divination (Leviticus 19:26), witchcraft (Deuteronomy 18:9-13), spiritism (Leviticus 20:27), astrology (Isaiah 47; Daniel 2:2,10) and occultic practices (Deuteronomy 18:9-12). These practices are strictly prohibited by God!
