Community volunteers and organizations honored for contributions to Saginaw County

United Way of Saginaw County hosted its 2013 Annual Meeting this morning at Horizons Conference Center.

The event honored volunteers and community organizations for their outstanding commitment to the community.

Two LIVE UNITED Awards were given to honor community individuals and groups who give, advocate and volunteer every day to make Saginaw County a better place for all. Receiving the 2013LIVE UNITED Community Award was Joe Madison, community volunteer.The 2013 LIVE UNITED Labor Award was presented to the UAW Local 699 Community Service Committee, represented by Chad Arndt, Jeremy Ward, China Fleming, Connie Mora and Jim Jesselaitis.

“LIVING UNITED speaks to the pride and honor we have for being union members. To us LIVING UNITED is about working together, helping together and treating everyone as an equal. It’s about affecting peoples’ lives in a positive way, however we can,” said Chad Arndt, UAW Local 699 Community Service Committee.

Thomas Begin received the Harry S. Lund Outstanding Volunteer Award which recognizes a volunteer who served United Way in various capacities over many years.

Each year three companies are honored with a Thomas J. Hetherman Campaign Award specifically for their excellence in the United Way annual community fundraising campaign. Receiving these awards wereAmigo Mobility International, Inc., KUKA Assembly & Test Corp. and The Dow Chemical Company.

The Lloyd J. Yeo Community Involvement Award was presented to Covenant HealthCare. This award honors a business who continually strives to create a culture of caring in the workplace and whose employees are driven to make a positive impact.

Dr. Mamie Thorns, Florinda Causie and Barbara A. Russell were recognized for their service and dedication to the organization as outgoing board members.

HealthSource Saginaw received the Rising Star Award for their increased campaign support.
