Community Members on the Commission on Gangs and Violence

The Commission on Gangs and Violence was launched by the Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson in March 2016 as a response to the increase in gangs and violence across Birmingham.

The focus of the Commission is to bring the local community, partners and decision-makers together in order to develop and implement a community-led response to the impact of gangs and violence.

The work taking place has been significant – and the final report is representative of what the community have said are the main issues. The summary and full reports can be found here. The report and recommendations set out how we work will together in partnership in the West Midlands to tackle the issues. The process has engaged statutory partners, but importantly, it has been community-led. The report goes into detail about the issues as they affect people on a day to day basis. There has been a wide ranging consultation and engagement process that looked at a number of key strands within the community including, young people, faith, offenders and ex-offenders, elders, women and families, south Asian and Somalian communities,

The report was launched on December 7 2017 and the link to the video ishere
