Community Helpers Family Night

Dear Community Helpers:

The ETM Committee is in need of a few more volunteers for our upcoming “Community Helpers” family night. Our family night will be held on Thursday, April 6th from 6:15-7:30. Below is a list of occupations we are looking for volunteers in:

·  firefighter

·  policeman

·  state police

·  coaches

·  nurses

·  mechanic/construction worker

·  food service

·  band directors

If you are thinking about participating, below is a description of what you would need to prepare.

1.  In order to volunteer you will need to be “Level 1” volunteer trained. To complete this training, you need to complete a volunteer form and return it to Mechanicsville. You can obtain this form from the office at Mechanicsville Elementary.

2.  Provide a brief presentation (5-7 minutes) to a small group of students. Groups will vary in age (Pre-K – 5).

3.  Presentations would need to include a description of your occupational responsibilities.

4.  Teachers will plan an activity (10 min) for your group to complete that aligns with aspects of your job.

5.  Teachers will be working with you in order to support you during the presentation and activity.

If you are interested in volunteering please contact Mrs. Nozeika by February 28th, at or contact the school to leave a message at 410-751-3510.

Thank you for your support with this event!

MES READS

This week, youngest or only MES students brought home a copy of The Mouse and the Motorcycle as part of our school wide book club. I hope everyone has enjoyed meeting Ralph and Keith as we start on our reading journey. If your family has not read the first two chapters, it’s not too late to get caught up! Students who are participating in the vehicle contest by making a new vehicle for Ralph out of recycled materials should turn those into the media center next week. All entries are due by Friday February 17th. If your child did not pick up a direction paper or needs another they are available in the media center.

Happy Reading- Stefanie Goldsmith, Media Specialist
