POST: Youth Worker (Employability)

LOCATION:Gate 55, 55 Sighthill Road, EH11 4PB

HOURS:13.5 per week

DAY: Tuesday /Wednesday /Thursday (times tbc)

SALARY: 6:28 – 6:29: £22,229 - £23,074 per annum (pro-rata)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Service Manager, Housing Advice & Employability

PURPOSE OF JOB

Activity Agreements offer young people aged 16-19 support to take part in individualised programmes of learning and activity which help them become more able to engage in formal learning, training or employment. Participants sign an agreement in exchange for regular advice and support to develop their skills and move them towards a positive destination

This role will be to work with young people aged 16-19 in a variety of settings – including youth centres, the premises of voluntary organisations, home visits and other venues – developing and implementing a quality programme, reflecting the City’s Employability and Skills priorities.

CHAI manages the Activity Agreement Hub based at Gate 55.

MAJOR TASKS/JOB ACTIVITIES

  • To work as part of a staff team in the delivery of Activity Agreement programmes for young people
  • Manage a caseload of young people on Activity Agreements
  • To work with young people, some of whom may have additional support and behavioural needs on a one to one or group setting.
  • To work in partnership with a number of agencies to support young people throughout their Activity Agreement journey to ensure appropriate support and progression
  • To develop relationships with young people, parents and carers
  • To contribute to planning, monitoring and evaluation of Activity Agreement provision.
  • To use Caselink to track young people and their progress
  • To undertake all appropriate duties as requested by line manager.
  • To undertake induction and other training as deemed necessary by CHAI.

EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

No formal qualifications are required. However, workers must be able to complete basic training associated with the post

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The post holder should be able to evidence basic competencies in a youth and children’s work setting, knowledge and understanding of the current issues facing children and young people.

Ideally the post holder will also have experience of working with vulnerable young people or with young people with additional needs through the transition period from School to employment.

COMPLEXITY

The post will involve working with children and young people, working with a wide range of other agencies, implementing council policy and best practice, budget management, monitoring and evaluation, programme planning/development/delivery, gathering local intelligence re youth and children’s issues.
