COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING MANAGER SCOTLAND

RESPONSIBLE TO: / NATIONAL FUNDRAISING MANAGER
LOCATION: / HOME BASED (THE CHARITY WILL PROVIDE BUSINESS EQUIPMENT AND A CAR ALLOWANCE)
HOURS: / FULL TIME 35 HOURS PER WEEK
MAIN PURPOSE: / the charity, or to meet fundraising targets within the Fundraising Budget. Manage the National Events Co-ordinator.
  • To achieve specific fundraising objectives as directed by the National Fundraising Manager as outlined within the regional fundraising strategy.
  • To raise funds for the charity by leveraging support from volunteers and third parties from within the assigned area to a target figure and against specific and agreed objectives.
  • To build new relationships with the small to medium local business community, local groups and societies, faith organisations and events and event participants where appropriate.
  • To ensure that good relations are established and maintained with local media and to promote the Hearing Dogs brand.
  • To report back on regular basis to the National Fundraising Manager as to activity, progress and achievement against identified financial and soft targets.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

STRATEGY AND PLANNING

  • With guidance from the National Fundraising Manager produce an annual income generation plan that will deliver on the fundraising target as set for the region.
  • As directed by the National Fundraising Manager identify a closely monitored plan for fundraising approaches which offers the greatest potential to deliver on the agreed income target for the region.
  • Utilise fundraising products, as supplied and administered by the central fundraising team, in order to secure sponsorship for partnership dogs within the region and promote a number of nationwide fundraising initiatives.
  • Work cooperatively with other fundraising colleagues (events, individual giving and major giving, including corporates and trusts and with communications) to jointly further the impact of fundraising within the region.
  • Encourage and demonstrate innovation and creativity within the fundraising mix in order to maintain Hearing Dogs for Deaf People as a leader in its field.
  • Maximise the benefit of Hearing Dogs operational activity as aids to fundraising.
  • Ensure greater involvement with, and awareness of, the Charity from within the region.

FINANCIAL AND REPORTING

  • Achieve the annual income target for the region as identified by the National Fundraising Manger
  • Monitor regional income/expenditure monthly against budget.
  • Report on variances and implement appropriate contingency plans.
  • Maintain the charity database with timely and accurate donor, third party information.

NETWORKING AND VOLUNTEERS

  • Develop and build proactive financially rewarding relationships with internal and external stakeholders and key volunteers.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with other Hearing Dogs employees including Partnership Instructors and recipients of dogs within the region with a view to using those contacts as aids to benefit fundraising
  • Work with other Departments who have operations within the region to ensure a collaborative approach in recognising, encouraging and working with our supporters and volunteers.
  • Recruit, support and motivate new and existing informal volunteer fundraising supporter groups and third party fundraising supporters, from a variety of different backgrounds in order to raise money in a variety of different ways.
  • Provide logistical support to Branches
  • Represent the Charity with local media both generally and in support of local /regional fundraising objectives and harness new support using methods such as virtual networking and business networking opportunities.
  • Represent the Charity at volunteer and sector functions and events.

GENERAL

 Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.

  • Travel on a regular basis, as required in support of the Community Fundraising Team and to presentations, meetings, training etc.
  • Travel to the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’s central office in Buckinghamshire and Yorkshire for Regional Fundraising meetings as required by the Head of Fundraising and National Fundraising Manager
  • To preserve any information to which you are privy in your role as confidential.
  • To complete required paperwork accurately and on time.
  • To be able to talk knowledgeably and enthusiastically about our work.
  • To assist with other tasks and training which the National Fundraising Manager may reasonably request.
  • Uphold and promote Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’s commitment to diversity and the benefits it brings and comply with Hearing Dogs for Deaf Peoples’ policies and procedures.
  • To undergo training to a set level of deaf awareness and communication as required by the charity
  • As a charity, Hearing Dogs has a large network of volunteers based at both our training centres and spread nationwide. As such, you may be involved in working with and/or supervising volunteers in this role.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitating of Offenders Act 1974. This is in relation to the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults. Applicants will therefore be required to disclose all convictions (spent and unspent), cautions, warnings and reprimands and any relevant non-conviction information. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Check under the terms of the Police Act 1997 (Part V).

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL:

  • Proactive and confident self-starter with experience of raising funds from the community, gained either within the voluntary sector or the commercial world.
  • A drive to achieve and exceed predetermined financial targets and experience of the budgetary process, report writing and with a strategic approach to their work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills coupled with an enthusiastic and positive approach to increasing support for the charity from across the region.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to contribute towards the success of the Community Fundraising team.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of databases and an ability to keep accurate records of all contacts and relevant information and a willingness to share information with the team.
  • Ability to work on own, without close and constant support and supervision.
  • Able to work well under pressure and to targets and deadlines.
  • Educated to A Level or equivalent.
  • A full current driving license.

DESIRABLE

  • An approach that is flexible, innovative and responsive.
  • Experience of the voluntary sector and fundraising in particular.
  • An understanding of charity law and how it relates to community fundraising.
  • Experience of public speaking and presenting to a diverse range of audiences.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by the deaf community and the disability marketplace in particular.
  • A significant record of achievement in raising funds either gained within the voluntary sector or within a sales background.
  • A team player with a desire to inspire and motivate others.
