Position Title:AmeriCorps Community College Completion Coach
College Bound St. Louis is an award-winning college preparation and persistence program. . Through an individualized, holistic, and multi-year commitment, College Bound’s mission is to empower promising high school and college students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve bachelor’s degrees and fulfilling careers. Since our founding in 2006, we have succeeded in helping 99.9% of our graduating high school seniors earn admission to a four-year college and helping them graduate at 5 times the rate of their peers! Position Summary
Community College Completion Coaches will work directly with first-generation, low-income St. Louis Community College students, supporting them in hybrid advisor-mentor-counselor roles as they pursue their Associate’s degrees, and potentially their bachelor’s degrees. Completion Coaches must form strong, in-person relationships with students to help them navigate matriculation through St. Louis Community College. Coaches will help connect students with on-campus resources, track students’ academic and financial college profiles, and support students in advocating for themselves in their degree pursuits. Core to College Bound’s approach with our students is building strong relationships with them; we believe no significant learning can occur without a significant relationship. Additionally, all AmeriCorps Members will receive professional development, training, and support from industry professionals.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide intrusive and structuredone-on-oneinterventionsto develop fundamental skills related to student success and academiclogistics.
Manage a caseload of approximately 30-40 students by establishing and maintaining meaningful relationships and clear communication
Advise students on their school-specific on-campus resources, programs, and policies
Support students through financial aid applications and renewals
Assist students in searching for and applying to scholarships & investing in their campus communities
Seek out and create relationship-building experiences (including on-campus visits to local schools)
Communicate with students regularly via phone, text, email, social media, and in-person visits
Advocate for students with university staff, financial aid institutions
Monitor and track student progress using the Persistence Tracking System
Organize, supervise, and interact with students and parents at regular College Bound events
Establish, maintain, and utilize partnerships with on-campus contacts
Coordinate study sessions and programming to meet student needs
Mentor and advise students in all matters that move them toward community college graduation and potentially toward transferring to four-year institutions
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Experience working with youth
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including over the phone)
Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, organizational, and computer skills
High energy, and enthusiastic with a strong belief that young people can succeed
Strong commitment to service
Commitment to serve 40 hours a week
Benefits
$15,000 Living stipend (full-time)/ $7,500 Living Stipend (half-time)
$5,775 Education Award (full-time)/ $2,800 Education Award (half-time)

Federal student loan forbearance; additionally, AmeriCorps will pay the interest that accrues on your loans during your term of service
