Tea Party with the Ladies of the Museum and Lion’s Club

The annualLadies of the Museum and Lion’s Club Tea Partywill be held at the Luther Lion’s hall on Saturday, October 7 at 1:00pm. The speaker featured will be Lynn Rodenroth. Mark your calendar and join us for a fun-filled afternoon. Everyone is welcome and no reservations are necessary. The cost is $10 and includes a luncheon and of course tea! The proceeds will go to the Museum and the Lion’s Club.

Chili Cook-off News

It’s Chili Cook-off time again! Join us on November 4th, 2017 in downtown Luther for the 9th Annual “Tailgate” Chili Cook-off. This year’s theme is “Favorite Song.” Cooking begins at 10:00am. Tasting begins at 1:00pm. There will be good food and prizes!

For those wishing to enter the contest pre-register withMelanie @ 231-388-1082 to get your information packet needed for the day. $15 Entry fee must be paid when you register. The day of the event you will need: all the fixings to make at least 3-5 gallons of Chili on your tailgate (or on the street). Veggies must be chopped on site, bring extra utensils. Food must be prepared in a clean area. No crockpots. Bring your own handwashing station which can consist of a dishpan and an igloo container, a roll of paper towels and soap. No homemade canned goods may be used. Meat thermometers will be provided. Get creative and decorate your space for a chance to win a prize.

All proceeds go to support the Luther Days Association.

Lion’s Club News

The Lions Club will be hosting at Trunk-or-Treatand a Costume Contest at the Lion’s Hall for Halloween. Join them on Tuesday, October 31stfrom 5-7pm for Halloween Candy. The Costume Contest will be held for school age children.

Millpond Park Trunk-or-Treat

The Luther Parks Committee will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat at the Millpond Park on Tuesday, October 31st from 4-8pm. All are invited to set up and decorate their car to pass out candy for the Village Trick-or-Treat. There will also be hotdogs, chips, and hot chocolate served!

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

Hazardous Waste Disposal will be available for Lake, Mecosta and Osceola Counties on Saturday, October, 14 from 9am to 12 noon at the Wenger Pavilion in downtown Baldwin. This is located behind Jones Ice Cream Parlor. A poster on the last page of this newsletter contains a list of items accepted. There is no charge for this service but donations are appreciated.

Barbara Battle Benefit Auction

An Auction Fundraiser and Raffle will be held for Barbara Battle on October 28th. The auction will take place at the Lincoln Township Hall 20920 9 mile Road, Reed City MI with the famous Willie Holmes at 7pm. There will be cocktails (BYOB) and snacks before the auction starts at 6pm. $10.00 donation at the door. Auction items are still needed. Cougar Creek Ranch has donated a trophy buck hunt valued at $4,000 for the Barbara Battle Benefit Auction.

The winner of this raffle will get a guided hunt for a 150” class whitetail buck at Cougar Creek Ranch located in LeRoy, MI. This hunt is available for the 2017 hunting season. Drawing at 8 pm

North Bar Happenings

Starting Tuesday, October 3rd and continuing every Tuesday North Bar is hosting Euchre Nights at 2pm. Check on the first page for information on North Bar’s new Friday Night BBQ Rib Specials.

Join your friends at North Bar for their Michigan vs Michigan State Watch Party on Saturday, October 7. Enjoy drink specials, snacks, and indoor cornhole.

North Bar’s October Birthday Party will be held on Saturday, October 21st at 8pm. The theme will be a Glow Light Party.

The Halloween Party will be on Saturday, October 28th. Karaoke with Jen will begin at 8pm.

Loggers Landing Events

Loggers will be hosting their 2ndAnniversary Party at 4pm on Saturday, October 7th. This will be followed by their Michigan vs Michigan State Watch Party starting at 7:30pm.

The Halloween & Costume Party will be held on Saturday, October 28th. Live Music will be with Daniel James.

Luther Library Boosters

The Luther Library Boosters are looking for new members to help support our local Library. If you like to organize fundraisers and bake sales, then this is the perfect volunteer project for you! If you are interested, please contact the Library at 231-797-8006 for more information.

Library Events and Happenings

State Representative Scott VanSingel will be having office hours at the Luther Library on October 27th at 10:30am

Our annual Halloween Movie event will be held on Saturday, October 21, at 2pm. We will be hosting a children’s costume contest with prizes for the best costume!Spooky snacks will be served and then we will be showing the newly released movie “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (Rated PG-13). Movie programs are funded by a grant from the Lake County Community Foundation.

Our Craft Club will be held on Thursday, October 19 at 6pm and Friday, October 20 at 11am. We will be creating pumpkin/fall decor. Look for our flyers around town and check out our Facebook page for examples! The cost is only $5 with all supplies included.

Come check out our weekly “Story Hour!” Preschool children are welcome to come to the Library every Monday from 11am – noon. We read a book, do a craft and have a snack. This is a good opportunity for children to make new friends in a public/learning environment. This program is funded by a grant from the Gerber Foundation.

Methodist Church News

The Methodist Church is selling raffle tickets to fundraise for the church steeple. Tickets are $10 each. The drawing will be held on November 11th at 5pm. Prizes include a vintage Winchester Model 12 shotgun, a custom crafted 7 1/2’ Fly Rod, and a brand new Fender-FA Acoustic Guitar complete with gig bag.
