Communications Fundraising Volunteer – Role description and person specification

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Communications and Fundraising volunteer to support our Corporate Partnerships Liaison Officer and administrative team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role and strong IT skills. Hours will be flexible but we would like a minimum commitment of 8 hours per week for at least 12 months. Key tasks:

Administrative

  • Diary management for the Corporate Partnerships Liaison Officer and CEO
  • Managing enquiries and communications relating to fundraising and partnerships
  • Collating statistics on website and social media views/interactions

Events management and fundraising

  • Keeping track of any upcoming events, including creating and updating an online events calendar and internal email calendars
  • Assisting with planning for events, including logistics, ordering merchandise, booking entertainers and creating branded materials
  • Researching potential sources of funding and assisting with writing funding applications.

Communications and networking

  • Building and maintaining relationships with local press, PR and marketing firms interested in supporting the work of the charity, including reaching out to potential community and corporate partners
  • Updating, moderating and responding to messages on various social media and online platforms (Twitter, Facebook, website), with a focus on increasing engagement
  • Updating mailing lists and contacts
  • Ensuring all communication with supporters and clients is in adherence with the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2018

Promotional and digital

  • Advertising and promoting events both in print and on social media
  • Designing promotional materials for digital platforms e.g. email signatures, cover photos
  • Creating written content for social media and bi-monthly newsletters if required

Person specification

Essential:

  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrable It skills including experience using Microsoft Office programmes including Word, Publisher and Excel
  • Experience of using social media (Facebook and Twitter)
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise and manage own workload

Desirable:

  • Experience of creating flyers or similar using Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience of writing funding bids
  • Knowledge of funding within the charitable sector
