The Communications Dispatcher supposed to do the operation of short-wave radio and other types of telecommunications equipment. He or she has to work under the close supervision. The main duty is to provide information for the services, information and repairs by receiving and transmitting as well as responding to emergency and other various by dispatching specific parties. It will be the duty to prepare and keep the records and operate logs and performs other related tasks. He or she needs to serve as a leader and create appropriate decisions for his or her group in the absence of supervisor.

Duties and responsibilities

There are the duties and responsibilities of a communication dispatcher which have to be fulfilled:

·  The prime responsibility is to receive requests, including 911 calls, for medical, sheriff and fire protection and emergency services.

·  He or she needs to obtain and inputs important information regarding customer’s quires.

·  He or she has to evaluate and prioritize relevant calls and dispatches the right personnel and specific equipment.

·  It will be needed to use the CAD or computer aided dispatch system when needed.

·  He or she has the duty to oversee the emergency field operations so he or she needs to monitor and perform updates on ambulance, fire and sheriff unit area.

·  It will be the duty to perform the status update as well for the coordination of current emergency field operations.

·  He or she has to work as a backup support to the organization by providing necessary information with the use of 2-way radio.

·  He or she has to request the additional help from related agencies whenever necessary.

·  He or she has the duty obtain the computerized information on law enforcement from state, local and federal databases and information banks.

·  It will be needed to use the electronic telecommunications terminal to obtain the relevant information.

·  He or she has to prepare the reports as well such as typing reports, logs, reference cards, procedure manuals, and pertinent documents.

Skills and Specifications

The required skills and specifications are as follows:

·  The person should be able to accept and relay important information received on usually stressful conditions and the environment.

·  He or she should have very strong communication skills and must be able to speak on the telephone and radio in a clear and professional manner.

·  He or she should have sound knowledge of the English language and able to listen, speak and understand the English language.

·  He or she should have the decision making skills and should be able to take quick decisions in time.

·  He or she needs to have the ability to establish and maintain harmonious work relationships with co- agencies.

·  He or she must be computer literate and know how to use computers and typewriter keyboards.

Education and Qualifications

·  The person should be a high school graduate or equivalent.

·  The person should have past working experience of at least one year of in telephone switchboard operation and any other communications equipment.
