Expectations

Speech Appearance: To be your best you need to look your best! Your appearance is factored into your overall speech grade. You should dress professionally on days that you present. This means no jeans! We will talk about this in detail during class. If you do not dress it is a 20% deduction from that speech’s grade. If you are assigned to speak on Wednesday, be dressed and ready to go on Wednesday! If you are assigned to speak on Wednesday and we run out of time during class, be ready to go on Thursday, but you don’t have to dress.

Absences: If you are absent it is your responsibility to make up the work or get the notes. If you are absent on a speech day, be prepared to present on your return.

Late Speeches: Always be prepared to speak on your assigned performance day. One day late is a 20% automatic reduction in your speech grade. After one day it is a 50% reduction. Late homework will be accepted with a 20% reduction. All assignments, including speeches, must be completed before finals.

Food and Beverages:No food is permitted in this class. A water bottle is allowed. This is a nut free room.

Leaving the Room: Bring your materials to class. You are not allowed to print off anything during class time. Nor will you be allowed to use my computer. Students will ask Mrs. Sampson for permission before leaving the room for any reason. If Mrs. Sampson does give you permission to leave, you must take a green pass with you.

Plagiarism is a very serious matter:If you are caught plagiarizing in this class, the grade is an automatic zero.

Class Participation: Students are expected to provide meaningful insight through class discussion and participation. Participation must be relevant, reflective, and educational.

Assigned Seats: Seats will be assigned, and students will follow that plan. If a change is necessary, speak with me after class, or give me a note explaining your request. I expect you to be ready to learn by the time the bell rings. That means you are in your seat and have the necessary materials on your desk. At the end of the period remain seated until the bell rings. Keep your seat in your seat!

Electronic Devices:All electronic devices must be powered down before entering the classroom and may not be used during class without the permission. If I see or hear your cell phone, it will be confiscated and disciplinary action will follow.

Email:If questions come up outside of school hours, please feel free to email me at . Just remember who your audience is (me, your teacher) so please be precise and formal in your writing.
