About Me
Hi! My full name is Florian Puppet
I am 10 year’s old and I’m going on holiday with HCPT group 73 in 2010.
I’m very excited – I’ve heard lots about it and am looking forward to singing lots of songs and playing with all the boys and girls.
Family and friends
This is a picture of me with my mum dad and 2 brothers.
My brother Jimmy is my best friend, we go everywhere together.
We live in Cardiff. Our house has 2 bedrooms, I share with my brothers but like to go into mum and dad’s bed at night
School
I go to puppets special school In Cardiff on a big yellow bus that collects me from home every day.
My teacher is called Mrs Jones
I am very good at Singing & signing and I like making people laugh with my big smile and silly actions.
Things I like to do
I like
I’m not able to eat foods like other boys and girls but I like to join people at the table. I Like holding hands and being included in jokes. I love music!! My favourite song is happy Birthday.
Sometimes I like time by myself – I’ll tell you if I need some time out.
Being left out of whats going on, I’m veru nosey! I find it difficult to sit up by myself so need you to remember to help me. I don’t like sudden loud noises – please tell me if they are likely to happen, hold my hand and reassure me. I’m scared of Bees.
The physical stuff
My body is not made like other peoples as I have a medical condition called ‘puppetitis’. This means I am a bit floppy and need help to sit or stand. I can’t walk by myself but can kick my legs with help and use my hands really well.
This is a picture of my wheelchair – It must not be taken apart when we go on holiday. Please make sure that my seat is upright when I’m playing but lying back when we are traveling.
I can stand with someone supporting me. I like to do this, especially when there is music I can dance too but I get tired easily.
I like to be lifted by one person, with my head supported. I do not use a hoist at home although I have one at school. I can sit in a chair but will need someone either side of me on the plane or on a coach.
These are my splints – I wear them at night.
Communication
I am not able to speak without help but I am very good at sign language, particularly to music.
I indicate my choices by pointing with my hands or by signing. I am able to nod and shake my head for yes and no.
At school I use a picture book, but can communicate without it, so will not be bringing it to Lourdes,
I am used to a picture timetable from school.
Eating and drinking
I have a gastrostomy – a tube in my tummy through which I have milk – this gives me all the nutrition that I need.
I have my milk over 16hrs, the pump which holds my milk fits in my backpack. I will bring 2 pumps just incase one fails. The pump needs plugging in over night to recharge.
I can have water through my tube as I don’t like to drink very much. Sometimes I like to have apple juice and I will bring my favourite beaker. Please thicken any drinks for me to ‘wallpaper paste’ consistency.
Foods I Like

Custard
Chocolate buttons – but please help me put them in my mouth. I might make a lot of mess and get chocolate all over me… it’s part of the fun!
My favourite meal is
Most of my goodies come from my milk – I enjoy having a small amount of food, don’t worry if I don’t eat much
Foods I don’t like
Anything hard or that needs chewing.
My drinks need to be thickened please.
Bed and bath time
This is the bed that I have at home, it keeps me nice and safe! In Lourdes, I’d like my bed pushed against the wall and the mattress edge raised so that I can’t accidentally roll out. I like to take my teddy to bed with me. I like to have a nightlight.
I normally go to bed at 8pm or 9pm on school holidays. I often don’t fall asleep straight away but will be happy in my bed.
I like to wake up early – usually about 6am. At home, mummy is usually up then, but I am quite happy in my bed until everyone else gets up.
I like baths but need help to sit up. I love having my hair washed but hate my teeth being brushed. Mummy tells me it’s important so does it quickly for me ( but I still protest lots!)
I like to have help with all of my personal care.
Our Holiday in Lourdes
I love noisy toys and things that make music. I also like looking at books and telling stories. I love getting new books as presents. I enjoy party games that involve music – I’ve never been to a disco, I think I’d like it, as long as there are no sudden unexpected noises.

Medical Stuff
Allergies: I have an allergy to dogs and will carry my epipen with me at all times.
Epilepsy / fitting: I had a fit when I was very little but do not have any medicines any more.
Gastrostomy tube: I will carry a spare tube with me. If my tube falls out, please get someone to put one back in asap.
Melatonin: This is the medicine I have to help me sleep. I have it an hour before I go to bed, via my gastrostomy as I don’t like the taste of it. Yuck!!!

Some other things for my helpers to know
Mummy & Daddy & my brothers will be going camping whilst we’re away. They will be on their mobiles but in case of emergency, contact my auntie Bella. The address of the campsite is tulip hill, porthcawl.
Mummy and daddy would love to have a text when we arrive in Lourdes. Updates would be lovely but they know we’ll be busy having fun so won’t worry if they don’t get a text every day. My helpers will help me call home on Wednesday night.
I am very loving but can get overexcited. A calm voice helps me to chill out.
I’ve not been on a plane before – it’s very exciting!!
