- Notebook paper
- 1 subject notebook (spiral or composition book)
- PENCILS! – you must have a pencil to use on quizzes and tests!
- Optional – TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator. Calculators will be provided for use in class (If a calculator is needed to complete homework, students enrolled in HS Math 1 may request to check one out from the media center. 40% - Notebook quizzes, homework, class work
45% - Unit tests (count twice), Lesson Quizzes, Projects
*Please be aware that the End of Course (EOC) test that will be taken at the end of the year counts for 25% of the final course grade*Students must maintain a C average for the year and pass the Math 1 EOC in order to receive high school credit for this course.*
Tutoring
If you need extra help on a certain topic, you are welcome to stay afterschool. I am available on Tuesday afternoons until 3:00 if you can provide your own transportation. You must let me know one day in advance by signing up on the “tutoring sign up sheet” located in my classroom. If you do not have a ride that can pick you up by 3pm each Tuesday, you may not stay for tutoring.
Course Overview
We have a lot of information to cover this year – below is a brief overview of the topics we will cover each quarter. This schedule may change depending on the needs of the students.
First Quarter – Data Analysis, Equations, Inequalities and Functions
Second Quarter – Linear Functions
Third Quarter – Exponential Functions and Quadratic Functions
Fourth Quarter – Systems of Equations, Two Variable Statistics, EOG review, and EOC review
What to Expect
- Homework -- Homework will be assigned every night and we will go over the answers in class the next day. All work must be shown in order to receive full credit. Assignments turned in with just answers will score no higher than a 50. Homework will be checked at least once a week – you never know which day it will happen, or how often, so make sure you keep up with your work. You cannot be successful in this course if you do not complete all assignments.
- Notebook Quizzes -- In order to keep you organized, we will have notebook quizzes (both announced and unannounced). If all assignments are completed and you have been keeping up with your homework, you should have no problem getting a 100 on these quizzes.
- Unit Tests -- After we finish each unit, there will be a test. Quizzes given will help you prepare for these tests.
- Fast Pace—CC Math 1 in middle school is a course for advanced students. We will be working at a very fast pace in order to get through all of the required material. If you are absent for multiple days, be prepared to stay after school to catch up on what you missed.
- Daily Warm Ups -- Daily warm ups will be based on some of the 8th grade material that is not covered in HS Math 1. Since you are still required to take the 8th grade math EOG, this is to help make sure that you remember how to do the types of problems you will encounter on the EOG. If you don’t remember, it is ok! That is why we are doing these problems throughout the year and not just waiting until the week before EOGs.
If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me! You can reach me at school during school hours at 703-6765 or via email at (email will get the quickest response). Thank you in advance for any and all help that you will be this year. I am looking forward to a great year!!
