MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE RECREATION GROUNDS, PUBLIC LANDS AND LIGHTING COMMITTEE HELD ON WEDNESDAY 11th APRIL 2012, 7.20PM IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER, SIMPSON CENTRE, STOTFOLD

6536. APOLOGIES

Apologises were received from Councillors Mrs Hyde and Stoter.

6537. DISCLOSURES OF MEMBERS INTERESTS

There were no disclosures of interest. Members were reminded that if at any time during the meeting they have an interest in an item being discussed, they should declare it at that point.

6538. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION – QUESTIONS, COMMENTS & RESPONSES

There were no members of the public present.

6539. CLERK’S REPORT ON MATTERS ARISING AND CORRESPONDENCE FOR INFORMATION

·  Minute 6474– Central Beds Council were advised that we would accept the relocated bush shelter to be sited on High Street. They have been chased for an installation date.

·  Minute 6493 – Anglia & Midland Sports have been chased regarding cleaning of the MUGA. Alternative companies will be asked to quote if Anglia & Midland are unable to carry out work.

·  Minutes 6526 –Councillors Cooper and Mrs Cooper will provide maps for the next meeting to consider purchasing a new dog waste bin

Correspondence

-  Tree News – Spring/Summer 2012 is available from the Clerk

-  A request for parking on The Green has been received from the football club for 7th May and also the 8th or 10th May for Cup Finals.

6540. REPORT ON WARDEN GROUP MEETING & FORMATION AS A COUNCIL WORKING GROUP

Members were previously circulated copies of the minutes of the meeting of the Warden Group

Resolved that:

·  Footpath running down the side of the old Roecroft School playing field through to Home Close is added to Definitive Map.

·  Track and path STF/2/10 up to Pogles Wood is to be added to Seasonal Vegetation Clearance schedule

·  Path from Hitchin road through to Highbush is put on Definitive Map.

6541. FOOTPATH SEATING

Members considered approving the purchasing of a log and plank style bench to the left of footpath 14 across Millennium Green.

Resolved that a bench is purchased from Knebworth Carvings at a maximum cost of £100.

6542. CENTRAL BEDS COUNCIL ROAD ADOPTIONS & TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS

Members were given a copy of the details on Central Bedfordshir’s process for road adoptions and Traffic Regulation Orders.

6543. MATTERS FROM ANNUAL TOWN MEETING

Following a query from a resident at the Annual Town Meeting regarding the damage to grass verges in Highbush/Hyde Avenue members were advised of action taken by the office and the response from Central Beds Council

Resolved that the resident is informed of the actions of the office and the response from Central Beds Council.

6544. BIG TIDY UP

Members were asked to consider holding a Big Tidy Up event for 2012 and it was

Resolved that the Big Tidy Up is held on Saturday 7th July, with Mrs Saunders offer of opening the tea hut at Stotfold Town Football accepted.

Further resolved that Mrs Saunders is thanked for her offer of assistance

6545. MILL LANE STREET LIGHTING

Members were asked to consider previously circulated quotes from Terry Seymour for options for street lighting on Mill Lane, adjacent to the Mill car park

Resolved that Option 3, to supply and fit two 5 metre columns with double heads, complete with four ‘Industria’ 70 watt Arc 80 lanterns at a cost of £6180 plus vat.

Further resolved that a letter is sent to the Mill to request an additional contribution as the cost to site the street light has increased.

6546. ACCIDENT ON PLAY EQUIPMENT – HITCHIN ROAD RECREATION GROUND

Members were informed of an accident that had taken place during the Christmas holidays and subsequently reported to the office and to the Town Councillors Surgery on 20th March. No further action was considered necessary at this point.

6547. LITTER HOTSPOTS AROUND THE TOWN

Resolved that the following is reported to Central Beds Council:

·  Litter accumulating along the footpath adjacent to the Pig & Whistle Public House

6548. FAULTY LIGHTING

There were no faulty lighting columns to report.

6549. GENERAL WORK

Resolved that the following work is reported to Highways:

·  The new paths at Trinity Road/Kingsway are breaking up.

·  ‘Slippery Road’ sign at the junction of Brook Street/Hitchin Road is removed.

·  There are footway holes outside 9 & 18 Brayes Manor

·  Strip hole has appeared in High Street in front of parade of shops.

Resolved that the office:

·  Writes to the resident of 22 or 24 Grange Drive to ask them to trim the mountain ash tree as it is overhanging the footway.

·  Writes an article for the Stotfold News asking people to sweep gravel from their drives and keep it off footways.

6550. ITEMS FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY

Mr Golder has requested that residents are reminded not to park on grass verges during grass cutting season.

A meeting is being arranged with John Clark (Council Watch) and Ann Rowland from Central Beds Council to discuss the new cycle and walking signs, possible dates 8th, 9th or 11th May

There being no further relevant business the meeting was declared closed at 8.38pm
