Game of the Week –Avengers over CACI(47-46)
CACI took the early lead and dominated 3/4's of the game with great ball movement and good inside shooting. Avengers trailed by 12 almost the entire game until Coach Los (Carlos) changed to a man press defense. The press disrupted there flow and the Avengers started chipping away. CACI lost their big man with fouls with 7 minutes left. As that point the Avengers started fouling to force CACI to have to make there free throws. There inconsistent free throws lead to the Avengers trimming the lead and got the deficit down to 8 with 1.25 to play. Avengers came down the court and set a high screen outside the 3 pt line for Scotty Pitts and he drilled a 3 pt shot. Now it’s 5 with 47 seconds.
On the CACI inbound Avengers pressed full court and fouled immediately on the inbound. CACI missed both free throws and the Avengers came down and repeated the same play --Scotty Pitts drilled another 3 pt. Now there was 36 seconds left. CACI inbounded the ball and the Avengers fouled again. CACI missed both free throws and the Avengers called timeout. With 16 seconds the Avengers down by 2 inbounded the ball at half court. CACI was committed to playing strong man defense but with 5 seconds left, Scotty Pitts fought his defender off and made it to the corner and put up a 3 pointer. SWISH!!! The clock ran out and that was game was won!!!! Avengers win by 1!!!
