Commendation On the Occasion of Your Retirement – Rev. Stephen M. Rozzelle
WHEREAS, the Rev. Stephen M. Rozzelle has served as rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Basking Ridge since 1978, a 28-year period, and
WHEREAS, the Rev. Rozzelle retired from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on October 1, 2006, and
WHEREAS, the Rev. Rozelle has accomplished much during his almost three decades of service, such as:
· Presiding over three additions to the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and
· Increasing membership at St. Marks Church to larger than 90% of existing 161 parishes in the Diocese of New Jersey during his tenure and
· Granting permission for use of St. Mark’s facilities to fledgling churches of various denominations and
· Encouraging music appreciation by inviting operatic productions to perform at St. Mark’s as their venue, and
· Granting use of St. Mark’s parking facilities for Ridge High School overflow parking, and
· Fostering and encouraging the annual CROP WALK in Bernards Township, and
· Introducing Curbing Hunger as a humanitarian effort to feed the hungry throughout the summer, which has now become a State-wide practice, and
· Introducing the Walk to Bethlehem observance, a reenactment performed annually, prior to Christmas in Bernards Township, and
· Serving for many years as President of the Food Bank Network of Somerset County, and
· Serving as president of the Somerset Hills Fellowship of Christian Churches for two decades and also being on the Board of the Somerset County United Way, and
· Being one of the original sponsoring churches of Ridge Oak Senior Housing in Basking Ridge, and conducting monthly ecumenical services throughout the years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Township Committee of the Township of Bernards gratefully acknowledges all of the many contributions made to the Township, Somerset County and the State of New Jersey by the Rev. Stephen M. Rozzelle, and sends its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to him for a most fulfilling and rewarding retirement.
