Coming to Tunica on Thanksgiving Weekend

Tunica Arena Will Host World’s Largest Indoor Kart Race

TUNICA, Mississippi (July xx, 2005) The National Indoor Kart Championship is set to come to the Tunica Arena & Exposition Center for the fourth year in a row, said Roger Newman, the Arena’s executive director.The event will be held Nov. 25-26 and is considered the largest indoor kart race in the world.

Nearly 1,200 entries from 22 states, with more than 6,000 spectators, are expected to gather on the grounds of the Arena during the two days of championship races. The prize money for this event is $40,000. The championship is televised nationally each year on ESPN.

Said Lanier James, promoter of the event, “Over the course of the weekend, we’ll have 24 classes featuring the finest racers in the nation. They’ll tour the 1/8-mile indoor dirt oval for a total of over 120,000 laps or approximately 15,000 miles. Tunica is a great place for this event, and we really appreciate all the media, Tunica officials and sponsors who support us and help welcome our fans for some of the finest racing in the world.”

“We’re already working behind the scenes to get everything in place for the go-cart racers,” Newman said. “Being selected for this huge event is a good opportunity for Tunica to show the nation our hospitality and event management expertise right here in The South’s Casino Capital.”

Tunica Arena & Exposition Center

The Tunica Arena and Exposition Center features an indoor arena with 48,000 square feet of climate-controlled event space and permanent seating for 2,200, a covered outdoor arena of 230 feet by 400 feet with seating for up to 500, another covered arena of 185 feet by 95 feet, an adjacent pavilion with an additional 100,000 square feet of exposition area, plus extensive parking, shower facilities, dressing areas and support services.

Located in the heart of Tunica, “The South’s Casino Capitol” and the nation’s fastest-growing gaming resort destination, the Arena is owned and managed by Tunica County, Mississippi, and operated by the Tunica County Arena & Exposition Center, Inc., a Mississippi not-for-profit corporation.
