VOLUNTEERPOSITION:

Job Summary:
The Hospice Volunteer is responsible to and works under the direction of the individual office Hospice Volunteer Coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Good communication skills.
- Desire to help others.
- Completes basic Volunteer orientation and on-going educational experiences as required.
- It is recommended that individuals who volunteer should NOT have experienced the loss of a loved one within the past year prior to becoming a hospice volunteer.
- Successful completion of Background check pursuant to NRS 449.188 and NRS 179A.100
- Read, speak, write and understand the English language
- Must be able to handle frequent interruptions
- Must be able to cope with emotionally charged situations encompassing, patients, families and other caregivers
- Reliable transportation and maintain auto insurance.

Accountability:
Reports to Volunteer Coordinator.

Duties:
- Patient care (i.e.: Support, friendship, companionship, and presence).
- Comfort and dignity maintained/provided for patient and family.
- Errands
- Bereavement care/support
- Emotional support
- Program development
- Community relations and education
- Other services, based on interdisciplinary team recommendations and patient/caregiver needs
- Volunteers are required to report,to the office, any changes in the physical or mental condition of the hospice patient, their family and/or the primary caregiver that are observed during the visit.
- Follows Universal Precautions for hand-washing and infection control.
- Utilizes appropriate PPE as needed.
- In case of an emergency or to report a death, the local hospice office shall be contacted.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical/Safety Requirements:
1.Participates appropriately in emergency procedures (including disaster drills).
2.Operation of equipment in a safe manner and shares responsibility for communicating safety violations or unsafe practices to management.
3.Equipment Used: General office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax machine) and motor vehicles.
4.Category 2 for potential exposure to blood/body fluids. (Does not usually require the performance of procedures or other tasks in the work routine that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but Category 2 tasks may require the unexpected performance of these procedures).
5.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to

6.Occasionally requires: reaching, stooping and kneeling, frequently requires: sitting, regularly requires: standing, walking, use of hands, talking and hearing.
7.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
8.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, work- related stresses, and driving hazards. The individual may be required to drive to meetings with clients or health care professionals. The individual may be required to drive to patients’ homes. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
