Comcover Statement of Cover 2015-16 – Summary ofKey Changes

Purpose

This bulletin provides a summary of the key changes to the terms and conditions of cover encompassed within the Comcover Statement of Coverfor 2015-16.
The Statement of Cover is available on Comcover’s website.

It is important that you carefully read the Statement of Cover and understand changes that may affect your cover. This Information Bulletin should be read in conjuction with the
Statement of Cover.

There have been some format changes for the Statement of Cover 2015-16 which do not impact the terms and conditions of cover. As a result these changes are not included in this bulletin.

Date of effect

The Comcover Statement of Cover 2015-16 will take effect from, and including, 1July2015, and supersedes the Comcover Statement of Cover 2014-15.

Summary of Key Changes

The notable changes to the Comcover Statement of Cover 2015-16 compared to the Statement of Cover 2014-15 are outlined below.

16. Travel Outside of Country – Medical Expenses and Medical Emergencies

Section 16(2)

Summary: New inclusion

Change:

New wording: section 16(2)(f) states that “We will also pay reasonable expense incurred with Comcover’s agreement if the traveller’s trip is interrupted as a result of the traveller suffering an injury or illness.

Reason: Addresses/clarifies what Comcover will cover where a traveller’s arrangements have been adversely impacted by illness of injury while overseas.

Section 16(3)

Summary: Amendment of existing exclusion

Change:

Original: “We will not pay for injury, illness or death for which the traveller has been prescribed medication or treatment during the 30 days immediately preceding the commencement of the approved travel and/or deployment”

New wording: “We will not pay for any claim where the traveller would be reasonably considered unfit for travel or is travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner”

Reason: The exclusion was updated to minimise the risk exposure to the Commonwealth associated with a Fund Member approving travel for employees with known conditions (that may require maintenance and monitoring while overseas) and/or situations where a Fund Member proceeds to approval travel of an employee against the advice of a medical professional.

17. Expatriate

Section 17(3)(g)

Summary: Amendment of existing exclusion.

Change:

Original: “We will not pay for expenses from any pre-existing condition not reviewed and agreed to by Comcover prior to deployment”

New wording: “We will not pay for expenses from any pre-existing condition not reviewed and agreed to by Comcover prior to deployment. Pre-existing condition includes pregnancy or childbirth and/or any related complications”

Reason: To clarify that pre-existing condition includes pregnancy or childbirth and/or related complications.

18. Personal Effects and Travel Inside Country

Section 18(2)

Summary: New inclusion

Change:

New wording: Section 18(2)(c) states that “If whilst on approved travel money belonging to the employee, member of the board, commission or other body, or a voluntary worker, or for which her or she is responsible is stolen or lost, then we will pay for the lost or stolen money”

Reason: To clarify what Comcover will cover where money belonging to an employee
(as well as member of the board, commission or other body, or voluntary worker) is stolen or lost.

19. General Exclusions

Section 19(6) ‘Corruption of computer data’

Summary: Amendment of existing exclusion

Change:

Original: “We will not pay for any loss caused directly or indirectly by erasure or corruption of information on computer systems or other records arising from a computer virus or incorrect programming, punching, labelling, insertion or calculation”

New wording: “We will not pay for any loss caused directly or indirectly by erasure or corruption of information on computer systems or other records arising from your incorrect programming, punching, labelling, insertion or calculation”

Reason: Amended to cover entities from external cyber risks/threats.
