GRADES

1.)Rehearsal Grade90 points

10 points per week

These points are based on participation and contribution to rehearsal. To earn the 10 rehearsal points per week, members must:

  1. Be on time to rehearsal – unless a note comes with you from a teacher – you are considered tardy if you enter the choir room after the start of class. Class starts at 8:55.
  2. No gum – points will to taken from your grade and a detention will be assigned.
  3. Have ALL rehearsal material. Folder, pencil and theory book if needed.
  4. Participate in all aspects of the rehearsal.

2.) Voice Testing and Sight Singing10 points

Quarter 1 = voice testing

Quarter 2,3, and 4 = Sight Singing Quiz

2.) Music Theory Graded Assignments20 points

Each quarter we will completeMusic Theory Graded Assignments. These will be in the form of worksheets and quizzes.

3.) Performance Grade / Sight Reading Grade50 points

40 points Concert Performance

10 points Concert Reflection (completed the following class meeting)

In a grading period that does not contain a concert, singers will perform a sight reading example for points. This may be an individual performance or a group performance.

TOTAL – 170 points per quarter

Concert Attendance Policy

Each and every member is a vital part of every successful performance. Be certain to post the list of concert dates in an important place.

Unexcused absences from a concert will result in 0 points awarded for the Concert Performance and 0 points awarded for the Concert Reflection.

Excused absences are those defined by the Columbus Academy Handbook. A parent written and signed note or email must be submitted on the next school day the singer is present. The student will then be assigned a make-up assignment. In order to receive the 50 Concert Performance points, this make-up assignment must be submitted exactly one week from the date of the missed concert. The student must take the responsibility of turning in a note, procuring the assignment and turning it in.

Concert Attire

Fall Concert– Black Bottom, White Top

Ladies –black skirt or dressy slacks, white top – must have sleeves or wear a sweater, shrug or wrap over bare shoulders, black shoes

Gentlemen – black dress pants, white dress shirt, dark tie, black shoes

Cabaret – black bottom, colorful top (colors picked by Seniors)

OMEA Solo and Ensemble – dressy – does not need to be black and white

Dress in something you feel good in. Ladies – dress, skirt or dressy slacks. Gents – shirt and tie
