Colleton County High School

January 15, 2013

Dear Parent or Guardian,

I am pleased to have your student in Spanish class during the Spring 2014 semester. In our class we will explore the fundamental aspects of the language itself, including reading, writing, speaking and listening as well as several of the countries where Spanish is the primary language.

Learning a language requires a great deal of time and practice. For this reason, I hope you will encourage your student to review the materials that we cover in class at home, in addition to completing the homework assignments.

The online textbook provided by the publisher at http://my.hrw.com is a useful resource. In addition to an electronic version of the textbook and workbooks, it contains videos and supplemental materials. Students also have access to a variety of online games and quizzes, which are aligned with the class material, on my website.

Class Rules:

In order for our class to progress and allow all students to learn, I expect students to adhere to the school’s rules. I follow the designated discipline schedule, as it is described in the student handbook. Most importantly, I expect all students to have respect for themselves, other students and me. Students are expected to come to class prepared to learn. They should bring their notebook and a writing instrument every day.

Grades:

I enter grades on a regular basis so that students and parents can track their progress on the Parent Connect website. I will provide printed student progress reports upon request. The composition of your student’s final grade will follow district policy.

Make-up Policy

Colleton County School District policy is followed for make-up work. All make-up work is to be scheduled with me the day a student returns to class. Quizzes will be made up during class time. Tests must be made up during non-class time. Failure to make up work within the scheduled time will result in a grade of zero. In the case of unexcused absences, missed work may not be made up and will receive a grade of zero.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns or good news throughout the semester.

Sincerely,

Noelle Ford
